I'm finding about $400 to $700 a month in silver
in Brinks boxes so if they are removing silver they are doing one lousy job of it.

I bet Brinks lets employees trade out silver for clad - like a perk. I would also bet that it depends on the manager of the location, so its probably regional. I've searched 3 boxes so far and I'm on my fourth now. Skunked so far, hopefully this 4th one will have something in it. On a side note, when I picked up my box today, the teller asked me what I knew about silver. Turns out her husband received 5 American Silver Eagles for a 5 dollar purchase at a convenience store. Why doesn't stuff like that ever happen to me?

They had to have been stolen coins because no one would have bought those and then tried to use them as currency. |

OK - I need some advice...
I called the main headquarters of the bank I have an account with here in town to see if they could order half dollars for me. The manager there said they can only order them for businesses.
So now what? I know I can call another bank and open my account there. At the risk of dumb, are there other places that order them for any of you guys?

I have had banks that I do not even have accounts at offer to order me boxes of halves, I have a box coming in on Monday from a such a bank. Make some calls to different banks and see what their response is, what have you got to loose.

Hey, Everybody!
Went to about 6 banks today for searching, dumping and depositing cash after dumping. Found $210 in CWR. All dumps. But it was fun.
Found a new bank that is state/local and the teller who deals with the coin machine said she would open it and give me the halves if I had an account with them. I took her card, and we had a good conversation. She said at the moment there was 43$ in halves in it. I asked if I open a savings today, can I get the coins. She said it takes more than 1 day. So, it's a good potential source of hunting.
Since no silver halves found, I picked up a box of quarters from Bank of America. So far, best is a 1969 S proof.
Lots of national parks Q's in BU.
3 Boxes of halves on the way, and made a convert to CRH, his are on the way too.

i never had any luck with CWR, everywhere I go no one had any thats why I just get boxes have no other choice 2 boxes today Finally! broke my 11 box skunker - I hope that never happens again! 6 40s and 5 90s felt good to finally get something~!  |

Hello All, I did Box #5 today and got the following: 01P X 2 01D X 6 03D X 3 03P X 3  Marked coins I found:  P>S> I can not find CWR anywhere, I went to 6 banks just today got one roll and 19 loose all skunk, all the tellers I talk to say they are asked a lot for half's, so like others I have no real choice but boxes... |

Thank you all for the running commentary. I enjoy coming and reading this thread. Am having to wait for my next paydays to get some more bank boxes but it is coming ever closer to reality. My new relationship with Wells Fargo in Wilmington is working out wonderfully. I was telling one of the tellers that I would like to get 44 rolls of quarters to search through with my 14 year old godson. She offered me a whole bank box but I didn't have quite enough cash. She said that a friend's son comes in for quarters quite often because of the Boy Scout group he's in. They are collecting Statehood Quarters. She said please come in again and get all the quarters I want and happy searching. The young man who helped me set up my account took time to speak with me and reminded me to let him know whenever I am ready to order my halves. Yay! The quarters yielded up almost enough to finish out my godson's statehood collection. Mine is completely finished and we also found more of the ATB Quarters for both our albums. Also found a 1980S proof quarter. Today we both stopped in and they were happy to yield up 26 loose dollar coins along with 6 rolls of quarters (Had already stopped at BB&T coin counting machine first to get some paper cash). So we were able to find more coins for our Presidential albums too. While I will be happy whenever I do find silver, getting back into coin collecting has already brought me even better blessings. It brought me here to this coin forum and it brought back into my life a larger amount of quality time with a very precious young man who owns my heart. He has been working very hard around the house since he's been here and then in the evenings we make time most nights to search quarters or look up coin values or read in the forum. He has been enjoying reading your wonderful posts with great enthusiasm. So please, keep them coming. Edited by 1StarLight

To those asking why we order boxes. I think it's safe to say most all of us would take cwr's if we could get them...but we can't. And half the time you do get cwr's they're someone else' dump coins. And at the risk of possibly just feeding trolls, we do find silver in boxes. If you're curious about those finds, there are 657 pages for your viewing pleasure. Now if someone just wants an income stream...you're right. Probably not the most profitable/consistent job but it's not a job to most of us. It's a hobby. We get excited when we pry back the paper in anticipation of seeing that beautiful whitish silver edge. I tell my friends it's like a free lottery ticket but with smaller payouts.

I'm still carrying that skunk monkey as we speak. Sitting at a $38 THOUSAND skunk with halves. I tell ya.
I'm buying coins now instead of finding them, but that can only last for so long lol

I agree that no one would have bought those and then used them as currency, but a kid could have swiped them from his parents because they said "One Dollar" on them, or maybe they were in fact stolen. Either way, the teller at the bank didn't know what they were and originally thought they were old silver dollars. So there is definitely no lack of ignorance surrounding these coins. I would bet a lot of people would mistake these for dollar coins simply because they have never been exposed to them. |
