JFK Half Dollar Roll Hunters: Silver, Proofs And Other Finds

I ordered the two boxes, they should be there on Friday. I can't wait to see what I get. I'm glad now that she made me order two, instead of one. It feels like the day I asked for my first roll of nickels.

Does anyone know apx. what a 90% and a 40% silver half sells for, at say a coin shop?

At yesterdays price of $12.06 per oz. of silver, a 90% has $4.36 worth of silver. A 40% has $1.78.

With a population of 13,000 people, craigslist might not be that great. However, I don't believe you need an account for craigslist, just an email address. It's also free. All my craigslist purchases and sales have been person to person once we schedule a meeting time and place. That being said, it is also possible to waste a lot of time with people who don't show up, or who offer you a lot less then you listed after they do show up. You could also list stuff here of course.

Nice walker, was that a fed box or brinks box?

I'm getting excited about going through the 1000s of coins we have since my father in law bought a car from us using Kennedy halves and Ike dollars. I've already sorted the Ike dollars by year, & it is funny we actually found a 1973 (they were supposed to be in circulation) but it was from an old old casino in NV so maybe someone busted into their proof set to gamble!

I'm starting on the Kennedys this weekend and will post my results as I go. We're hoping to find some silver content coins to keep and are going to cash the rest in at the bank to put in savings.

Where does everyone get the paper rolls for half dollars since my banks don't seem to have them.

I went through $90 in more customer wrapped rolls, and found 1-1967
at least it's my first silver...

Guess I used up all my luck earlier. Last box was a skunk.

I'll rephrase that... You better believe I was surprised by the commemorative! What I meant was, I am more accustomed to finding other non-JFKs (actually, Walkers more than Franklins), and although those are definitely awesome finds, the commemorative was more of a mind-boggler. Why would anyone, even a foolish poor person down on their luck, crack out a proof coin? It's not like spending excess mint set coins that have no value. :-) Also, since I usually scan the edge of coins to look for silver, the chances of my finding a commemorative are low since I less often look at the surface of obvious clad coinage.

Random thought: Has anyone ever found a 1987 NIFC half?
