Every time I go to my local bank I ask the tellers if they have any halves or non golden dollars. I know this isn't quite roll hunting but recently the teller handed me 12 dollars in Kennedy halves. I could tell immediatley that one of them was silver and was only more surprised when I looked through them and found a 67. I wish it could be that easy all the time but if it was then everyone would do it. Since that time I have bought several more dollars worth of halves however I havent come across any worthy finds. Just from readin everyones posts it seems that finds on all denominations besides pennies are rare. Best of luck to everyone in their search.

Thanks for all your replies to my question.

It just seemed that everyone, including myself, always posted what they found. Yet, I hardly ever read what everyone was doing with their finds.

As for the 40% halves being undervalued by collectors, I think there is some truth to this. Yet, I think there is a change taking places. Last year, I saw a lot of auctions where 40% halves went under spot by a decent margin. Now, it seems almost every auction I have monitored recently has them selling at spot or above spot.

This being said, I still love to find any silver half dollar. I also love to find the error coins. I have yet to find the 1974 DDO, but I have found a 1972-D No FG. Maybe the 1974 will come in the next boxes I plan on doing.

I will be on a short vacation for about 10 days but plan on ordering at least four boxes when I get back.

Kenscott,
I think that they are Brinks because I bank at Chase and those are the trucks I've seen driving to the banks.

Off to a little get together for my birthday today. I think I may drop by a few banks while there and see if they
have some loose halves. You never know and I will be in the area any way short of some unforeseen circumstance.

Congrats Half Hunter! What kind of shape are the proofs in? Any of them appear BU? If so, they will likely be worth as much or more than a 40%er. Nice.

These orange painted coins seem to be originated from NJ. Just wonder how far they traveled. Are you close to NJ, M0nks?

Thanks for the props, guys, fun boxes today. Wrestling, yes they are all s mint, the 1976, is dull like an old 60's silver, I'm pretty sure its a 40% silver proof,my dansco has a slot for 1976 bu 40%, and 1976 proof 40% ,it has the s mint mark. Some of the coins are bu, some are rough, the 2000's are pretty worn. Nice to open rolls, and be rim searching out proofs, they stuck out pretty good, some I didnt see till I checked the dates, the silvers, were a nice bonus.

Yeah monks, some guy in jersey on another message board I just read at, had a picture of a whole box of halves, he sprayed orange, hes doing 50 plus boxes a week, and I read he sprayed some whole boxes orange, and green, but he had a picture of a whole box orange.
