@BernieZ the closest well-known town I am near is Gettysburg PA. So you and I are ~4hours apart. Unfortunately, I don't drive anymore (vertigo).

I had planned on being at the Philly coin show CCF family get together recently, but other health issues intervened

It has been a while since I have done well with halves but finally hads a good night. I only had $100 on me when I swung by the bank so I picked up ten rolls. Ended up with:
4 1968
2 1969
1 1966
1 1964
1 1963d Franklin
1 1945s walking
1 1941 walking
Hopefully I will have time to go back this week and buy some more because I have been through about $2000 in halves in the past couple of weeks with only a couple of 40% and one 64 to show for it

... not exactly "roll hunting," but still saved some silver from circulation.

I was at the ATM getting some $ to stop next door to the bank when I hear that sweet sound of silver music clinking at the cash register (the ATM is in a Walgreens pharmacy).

There she was - wouldn't quite say "elderly," but about as old as my grandma - 85 or so? I guess that would be considered elderly..... anyways... getting off track. She was dressed nice and her hair was done and makeup looked classy - kinda like a classy grandma - or great grandma to any YN's reading this (lol).

She was paying for her bottled water, bath tissue, and shampoo with a few bank notes and SILVER coins.

My mind began to race to figure out how to insert myself into the situation and obtain that silver that she was willing to part with for face. There was a line of about 5 people behind her that were tapping their feet with impatience as this perfect elder woman counted her change to give to the cashier.

Being the "not-so-shy" person that I am, I approached her gently and offered to pay for her groceries with $20 in exchange for her change - the total was $13.50 something. She saw through my "calm" veneer and knew that I was hawking her silver - so she says "Gosh... I better not."

...I realized 2 things...1. I didn't want to come off as a lunatic and 2.Didn't know exactly HOW MUCH there was. So in desperation, and the fact that the darn ATM only spits out $20's - I doubled it!!

...She looked at me... then at the cashier.... than back at me.... and said - OK... Thank you... So I gathered up a full handfull of her change that was already in the cashier's hand at this point - threw it in my pocket and whipped out my business card.

Turns out her husband passed away 3 years ago and he was a collector - they have a hoard of silver that she's been going through to pay for groceries!

Unfortunately I wasn't able to obtain her telephone number, but she has my card and will hopefully call.....

.... so my gamble paid off... she only had 3 clad coins - a bicentennial half, a 2008 dime and an interesting 1967 dime that is absolutely smooth on the reverse. A quick estimation of just the melt value is around $75 or so - haven't gone through all the roosies yet, but there were 2 barbers, 2 mercs, a franklin, and 2 64-kennedy's (one that is absolutely stunning in hand)

...and at the end of the day - She's happy because she made $40 and I'm happy because I paid almost halfway in-between spot and face - and I hope she calls - I even told that if I can't afford to purchase everything, I would help her sell it on ebay for a 10% commission. Heck - if I actually get a chance to see her collection and think (not gamble)I'd be more than willing to pay more than she would get at a dealer - and definately more than what she was going to do at Walgreens... geeeez.

Hey Nice move Lonz, thats al you can do. Maybe at the least she can confirm what happend with her family, if they arent trying to rob her blind, or if there is any. Maybe you will get a call, and can meet her at a bank, in this day and age though, you never know.

Three boxes today and yesterday yielded me, 9 Nifc, (1) 1987, (1) 40%.

If my new order comes through, Iv got 8 boxes coming thurs/friday, if not should still have my four.
