I have developed an obsession for coin roll hunting. It started when I found a sterling silver Royal Danish coffee pot, creamer and sugar bowl at a garage this past summer...45.98 troy ounces for $55. I then googled "finding silver" and read about coin roll hunting.

I started at my local banks branches...about 20 rolls which had 2 40% coins. After driving all over town for only 2 coins, I didn't feel it was worth the trouble. Then a friend told me that he gets 40% coins from teller trays (the kind in plain sight). I decided to give it another try after discovering Coin Community Roll Hunting forum. I read someone's comment about having more success at small town banks.

I drove about ten miles to a town with one bank. This bank had 55 rolls. I figured it was someone's dump but picked up 16 rolls anyway. These 16 rolls had 65 40% coins; so of course I went back for the other 39...which had 10 40%.

Over the next couple of weeks I went to every small town bank in the area. I ended up with the following:
7 rolls for 16 40%
100 rolls for 23 40% and 1 90%
110 rolls for 20 40% and 4 90% (including a Franklin)
30 rolls for 0.
I also kept some semi-key dates listed in the forum.
Unfortunately I cleaned out all of the close stockpiles of
rolls...moved on to dimes. I found 5 silver Roosevelts in about 70 rolls of dimes.

Frustrating day today, had the day off of work so I did some driving and stopped at about 18 banks. SKUNK! Nothing came up with about $375 in loose and rolled but not one silver. Any of you guys have any superstitions or times during the week where you score more?

I was able to pick up a box today. I didn't find any silver but I'm still happy with the results.

My weekly box this week had tons of those shiny silver dipped/plated NIFCs. "Tons" = ~80 coins or so. What is this coating anyway? Why is it done? I assume some huckster applies this coating to resell the coins in some fancy packaging commemorating some thing or another for some obscene markup. Is that what the people here believe? I usually keep NIFCs but I'm not sure if I want these. I feel the coins are ruined.

Well I had told some of my friends about searching halves, well one asked if the teller had any and they had $13.00. Well 12 40percent in them! I was happy for him. First try at any searching
