On the rare occasions I've been able to find Ike rolls I've always imagined finding actual silver dollars mixed in. You're living the dream, man; congrats!
That looks like an awfully small O mintmark on the Morgan. Did they make a small O variety for that year? Might be something special, on top of the excellent fact of just finding a Morgan!

Oh, I had to go to B of A today to get a trust document notarized; for some reason this particular document needed to be processed by B of A rather than by a generic notary. As long as I was at the bank I asked for halves. $23 worth of teller-tray coins yielded 13 silver-clads. I got my documentation done and picked up a nice bonus. Fruit!  |

You could actually place all the knowledge I have about Morgans in a very small thimble. Yes, that small. I hope I'll have more information after I talk to my Brother tomorrow. I'll research the small O mintmark tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up.

There are a few possible error variations on the 1888 O Morgan. The type of O and an error with the lips are the two most common. Do you have a Cherrypicker's guide to reference?

I think that Morgan is a counterfeit, the O doesn't match any known designs for 1888.

The Morgan is fake. Thanks for the heads up Kritler. It sticks to a magnet.  Well, it was fun while it lasted. It's still ranks as a first for me. This is the first fake that I've found. That I know of. Thanks for sharing the ride with me. I'm still going to keep it. It will prevent someone from attempting to pass it off as real. Is there some way to permanently mark it to show it's a fake? Just in case? |

your best bet on those bags is to crack em open and sell pairs of rolls. $50 a set would get you a bit more money out of it. singles would take forever and all at once would lose money, the next guy is just going to roll and re-sell them. that's what I would do anyways.

Murphy: Find an 'F' punch - probably find one at a hardware shop - and choose one of the fields. Hammer it in. No matter what someone does, they wont be removing all traces of that F.

Don't stamp it. Keep it out of circulation in a 2x2 or something. I don't agree with counterfeiting but it is a variation, eaven If it is not truly legal tender. How many counterfeit coins could have been produced for that year? I'm guessing less than the amount of legit coins in which case, a counterfeit is rarer than some mint produced coins.
For example, If you had a counterfeit copy of the Mona Lisa, and there was a story behind it, it would have a significant historical value.

Hmm... you'd need a mechanism that makes it clearly fake, whilst not harming the coin? It would have to be on a face, as the edge can be hidden in holders.
Can you buy blank slabs? You could label it fake and put it in one. Its not complete protection, someone could crack it out.
Perhaps a soluble marker pen - not in water, but something a bit stronger. Make sure it only comes off with a solvent you know of - not acetone, something truly noxious.
