Thanks to everyone for their help with the fake Morgan. I have contacted Steve Caruso at The Black Cabinet and decided to send the coin to him. This will ensure it never gets into circulation as a "Real" Morgan again.

Now that this is over, let's get back to searching halves. Sorry for highjacking this thread for a little while. I had no idea it would take off like it did.

4 box total: 5

3 @ 90%: 1-42S Walker, 2-64P JFK'S

2 @ 40%.

*1-1972P 1 DO-001
Pics below.

Not in that great of shape compared to other's that I've found, but a DDO is a DDO and my silver finds have been very low lately so this was a very pleasant surprise today!

Great finds chuckster. I am still looking for my first Walker.

I have not been able to find a 1972-P DDO yet. I have found a few 1974-D DDO so far. Most of them are in about the same shape as your 1972. Every time I find a really nice 72-P, 73-D, 74-D, or 77-D I hold my breath in hopes it's a DDO. But to no avail.

It's a crappy counterfeit morgan from China. Throw it away and be done with it, imho.

Hello everyone I order halfs from 4 different banks two of the banks have really dried up for two weeks straight.
The other bank I would always get at least 1 silver up to 14. and the last bank is hit or miss.
so far in the last two weeks from 10 boxes I got 1-1968 40%-1 1964-d 90% and one 2006-s proof.
Not sure if this makes a difference but the boxes are stamped with a number on them and certain numbers stamped
on the box always have silver in them. Does anyone know what the numbers mean?

There was some talk about stamped boxes here a while ago. I posted a photo of a stamped box on page 839 back in September. You may want to go back and read a few of the postings from around that time? It helped me to get a better understanding about the coin sorting process. Bishftl did a really great job of explaining it to me on page 840. I hope this helps.

Silver Hunter,
I had very good luck with the boxes with the
inspectors number stamped on them all of Sept and Oct.
I called the federal reserve here in Dallas and asked some questions a while back about rolled coins. They told me they only ship out new coins when needed.
All other coins are pick up by the couriers rolled and
supplied back to the banks as they order them.
Loomis is a very big player in rolling coins.
They have Federal Reserve Coin Depots in 40 locations.

I'm still here, had a rough end to last week... 3 banks (12 boxes) didn't order, and the orders I did get only gave up 7 keepers out of 14 boxes, ouch. I'm off to pick up some boxes right now, only have a few to do today, then nothing tomorrow... Wednesday is when the madness starts.

Anyone know if the gold plated halves have any value? I pulled about 50 from a box.

I toss 'em aside but I don't think they're worth over face.

I told this bank to order 4, they only ordered one. :(

Good box though, 21 40%, 2'64, a '53-D, and... a 1911 Barber. :)

Was not able to keep specific posts of finds for the last month or so. But the total of non-NIFC finds from the last 8 boxes have been:
1974 DDO
1968D

Todays three boxes:
Boxes 60-61-62 12/3/12

NIFC
1P................3 threw back
1D................4 threw back
2P................1
3D................1
4D................2
5P................2
5D................1 damaged - threw back
6P................1 damaged - threw back
9P................1
11D...............2

2000 S Proof

Totals:
year.........Today's Totals........Running Total for 52 boxes
72P.............214.........................0/3575 DDO's found
72D..............66......................... 2/981 No FGs found
73D..............26..........................2/406 DDOs found
74D..............30..........................2/441 DDOs found
82P...............12..........................0/156 No FGs found
83P.............. 61..........................4/741 No FGs found [/code]

Only 441 1974Ds and 2 DDOs found
Only 406 1973Ds and 2 DDOs found
And over 3500 1972s ad NO DDOs found? Is it really that rare compared to the other 2?
And, actually, I have looked through more than this - closer to 4000 since these totals do not include the 1st 10 boxes I did, but the average numbers per recorded boxes let me make a good estimate of the actual totals.

I wonder if these numbers reflect true rarity?

Also... the only silver being 1 single 40% in the last 11 boxes - ouch! But no one else orders them from my bank - I know from talking with the head teller who takes care of it herself. The other banks charge to order halves so I am not sure I have much (if any) local competition. So I wonder where the silver is?

Here's the barber I found today... Nice, problem-free AG.

Earle, you have to remember, your local change supplier operates out of what is typically a pretty big area. Just because you don't know of anybody else ordering in town doesn't mean that nobody else in the district is ordering.
