I got to the bank and there was a new teller who did not know me working - but she had heard from the head teller that I would be there to get some special rolls and a couple boxes of halves. She pulled out two loose halves I could tell were silver and then got me 110.00 worth of rolls from under the counter.

While going through them my bubble was starting to burst b/c I got no silver until the last 2 rolls - and the head teller had called and said there were "quite a few" silver in the batch. Then I hit the jackpot!

A total of 21 40% JFKs! It reminded me of the kinds of rolls I used to get back in the 70s.

Some of the other rolls have been in storage for awhile it seems since some of the older 70s and 80s are in nice condition. I got the first 1989 with a good strike that I have ever seen - JFK actually has hair on this one

After I get to put the 1989 in acetone (some possible tape residue), I hope to get some pics. There was also an incredible 1974 D - I thought it was a modern NIFC when I first saw it b/c it was so bright.

I find quite a few hammered '89's... I think they changed the die specifications and striking patterns in late '89.

Bad news from that Loomis dump today... the coins have to be rolled. What the heck is the point in bagging them, then? Ugh. Gonna call Loomis directly and see if I can't set something up that way. If I have to pay $500/month or something, I'm still gonna do it, I'll just sell my hoard ($15-$20k in silver) and try to push 80-100 boxes a week.

Good find earl, have yet to have a teller from a pick up bank hook me up with silver, just ikes and dumps...lol.

I worked 41 hours from wednesday to today, split shifts. After going to sleep at 4 am, and getting up at 8:15 to dump, went to pick up my four boxes today, and they didnt order anything this week. Was looking forward to working my 6 hours and relaxing with my boxes, to bad. Called my 'bonus bank" no luck there. Hit one random bank, no luck there, but I saw a coin counter, not a cummins, never seen it before, I'm thinking its a seperate bagger for denomnations, all the others around here are one bin. Something to investigate at a later time. picked up one box of skunky quarters as usual.

Havnt posted pics for a while, I did score (10) 40% from 11 boxes this week, thanks to my bonus box on monday with 9.

One of my brinks boxes gave up I would estimate over 800 brand new 1995 coins. I dumped them back,, they did extend to 2 other boxes as well, to bad that wasnt a collection dump.

Also a crazy looking 1994 Greaser. Well good luck to everyone. hoping to get my full 14 boxes next week, seems I havnt got them all since before christmas.

Go back a little on this thread to find one of my posts (before the last one). At the end of my posts are running totals of JFKs that can have double dies or are the kind with no designer's initials (missing the FG).

Most of these show up on ebay where you can get pretty good pics of what they look like.

Something else I have noticed about the 89P and 89D is that the rims look higher around the edges of the coin (or the entire design is sunken in more).

I am a total rookie on coin making techniques, but to me this looks like they were hitting the coins really hard when making them - but with poorly engraved dies. Note I am NOT saying this IS what happened. I am just saying from my unknowledgeable point of view, the looks of these made me think of this.

The difference is subtle if you only see a few, but after noticing this on each one I have found, I *think* I might be able to pick an 89 out of a bunch of JFKs even if the dates were not visible for some reason.

I've noticed the entire run of Kennedy's changed in striking styles after '89... it's possible the mint got new presses and was still experimenting with striking pressures, leading to the subtle differences. As far as the poor design, the other change I think happened was that they redid the master dies, but did so with an eye towards lowering the overall relief of the design (hence less detailed) to lengthen the life of the dies and save money.

Just finished Box #1 of 4. I was able to pull 1 1964. The entire box was full of some really great looking coins from the mid 1970's through late the 80's. There was not a single coin newer than 1992.

On to Box #2.

I forgot to add that it looks like the bank has changed suppliers. Either that or the armored car company has changed their coin wrappers.

Results for Box#2 of 4.

Although this box was similar to Box#1, as far as nice looking pre-1990's, it did yield 7 NIFC's and another 1964 and a 1953 Franklin. Unfortunately, it looks like the Franklin was pulled from some sort of holder.

One of these 64's is from Box#1.

Crud skunked on the second box, I wish I would have ordered 4 now. Funny how you can pull 3 and the proof from one and zero from the second and the boxes were even stamped the same, I guess that shows the coins aren't very well "blended" when they are rolled, wish I hadn't quit last year when I got skunked then.

If you could profit by bicentennial coin I could probably take the family on a little vacation, I'm not going to count but I bet it's got to be a third or better.

edited to add, some of the coin was marked with a dot on the ear, different colors, and a couple that were painted solid with a spray can.

yvairguy, I've noticed in terms of coin mixing, some does get mixed well, some doesn't... generally speaking, on weeks where I hit boxes that are good... 20+ keepers, there will be multiple boxes like that. That tells me that if a larger collection is dumped, its generally disbursed fairly well over a range of 3-4-5 boxes. However, you will hit veins where finds are higher than normal.

This week, as you can see, has been brutal... one box tonight made a bad week into an okay week, with 11 40% and 7 90%.

Nice score Jaobler. I really need to start asking if my banks have any customer wrapper rolls. Although, most of the tellers keep an eye out for silver. Still, it never hurts to ask.

Congrats Earle42. Do you reward your favorite tellers? I also have noticed the same thing with the 89's. As though they were struck harder than previous years. When looking at the edges, some of the 89's stand out due to their wider rims. They almost look like a proof edge.

FTB, I have not heard of the term lowball. This coin just looks really worn? My best guess is it's a 1973-P.

Edited for spelling errors.
