The coins are out there Dave. Every regular half you go through is one less in the countdown to the first silver hit. My wife says I'm a coin nerd the way I get all pumped by a few $4 coins. And I go Professor Evil with a handful of '64 Kens and a couple of Bens. Muhahahaha! It's fun and a great adjunct to my regular coin collecting. Keep hope alive!

I decided to deposit the $50 in CWR I got yesterday from four local banks. I deposited them in at a CU branch a few miles away and decided to drop by another bank close to it I have tried a few times before. I now know what getting from a teller tray is like. In short, there was a 2005-S and - wait for it - ELEVEN 1964s. In short, the best silver half dollar find I have had to date. Here is a pic of the 64's. I may upload the 2005-S clad proof later. wow awesome haul kenscott, I have an idea to drive and hit every bank I can in a straight line with dump banks along the way, just to see what I could do. Take my van, get in the back crack it all open and then dump it at the next dump bank pull my cash and head on to the next bank. I gotta think that stuff like you found is in the tellers drawers from time to time, just have to be there at the right time.

Yvairguy --- Thanks a lot. I do appreciate it. Honestly, I still have to get up the confidence to ask tellers if they have any halves if I am not a member of the bank I am asking. After today, I think it will be a bit easier. :) On a related note, while asking at some local banks yesterday, the people at TD Bank said they could likely order me halves. I may be lucky enough to be back in the hunt so to speak. JLafever --- Yes, I am stoked! *** I also forgot to mention the other teller had a 1974 Eisenhower dollar she was happy to part with as well. I, of course, thanked her and added it to the halves.

anything they want to hand me I take, even if I just add it to my next dump, one gal handed me a 64 half one day and I have been doing it that way ever since. Most of them will tell you coin is for their customers, I just say thanks anyway, but I do have 2 new banks since the first of the year with just 25 bucks sitting in them.

I may open basic accounts with PNC, Wells Fargo, and TD. These are major chains which have a lot of branches in my area in addition to the two banks I already have my main accounts with.
Like you, I may not have a lot in the accounts but if it opens a few more doors to good producing banks, it would be worth it. Until then, I will simply ask politely and keep note of how each branch reacts.

At new banks, I start by saying to the teller, "I don't have an account, but I would like to buy half dollars" and "I would consider starting an account at some point" which, like Yvairguy, I have. A few accounts helps the wheels turn sometimes.
Most of the tellers are really friendly and accommodating without an account though.

So far, I have only had one bank deny change for not having an account though I have got the odd looks from a few I did not have an account with.
I also point out that I am a coin collector. While getting the major find today, I played off the silver find and showed the tellers the proof. I told the girls that an S mint mark meant it was a proof and they might look for such in the future. I got some nice coins and tried to impart a bit of my hobby at the same time. Not a bad exchange IMO.

Ken, where are you located? Your area sounds a lot like mine. TD can try to order halves, but the order will be zeroed out, it's a corporate policy not to order halves, just FYI. They're one of my three dump banks. This was a half dollar find that I found in a bag of Ikes my bank ordered for me; A double-struck broadstrike, worth around $150 according to an estimate on the PCGS forums.   |

That's what my initial reaction was, then I realized that was impossible, more or less, given the dates. My second reaction was broadstruck, which it was, but I've never seen one in-hand before so I needed confirmation. If TD cannot order them for me, they could become a dump bank for me as well. I have heard that Wells will order them for you as well BOA. Luckily, there are plenty of branches of both where I am at.
As for the 1986 you have pictured, that is one heck of a find. Honestly, I think you may be able to get a bit more than $150 for it. It is quite a find.

North Carolina... I'm in PA. Good to know that if I move, my distribution network stays the same, haha. I use PNC to order lots of my boxes, they have quite a high tolerance, apparently. I would say at least 24 of my boxes every week come from them. So I'd order from PNC and WF, and dump on TD.

I did not mention the exact bank I found the 11 halves at yesterday, but it was indeed a local PNC. They have always been nice when I have asked for change, and they have some nice banking services as well.
I am not so much a fan of WF, but if ordering through them produces some decent results it would still be worth the new account.
I noticed today the dimes I got from PNC are Strings and Sons. I am really thinking PNC will be my next move.
