all I know is that they already get a coin delivery so I was going to see if I could add to that.
12 boxes, a few beat up proofs, a 2000 with a colored JFK with a flag in the background, 1-64, 8-40%

Its newbie city out there free hunting. To many big mouthes. Iv noticed this trending over the last 2-3 weeks everywhere I go. Hit Walmart this morning with the wife, 2 towns over. 9 am...walmart bank, no halves, you looking for silvers huh, 5 other people asked for them this week bank 2.... no halves...ok, I'm looking for paper wrapped quarters and dimes, OHH, we checked them all this morning, some guy told us about silver halves this week, we checked all the quarters and dimes to, Cindy got 5 rolls of silver quarters yesterday. Cindy pipes up "yeah I looked it up last night they are worth over 5$ each" 2-3 other customers ears and eyes light up.......I said you didnt save me anything huh....walked out Those quarters probably would of been mine bank 3...Get 535$ in quarters and dimes first, then ask for any halves, Teller "oh looking for silver, I have 100$ but there is no silver, another guy checked them at the counter this week" I still took them, skunked of course Next town on way back home... bank 1....410$,quarters and dimes cwr....$29.50 in halves, "some guy checked these, there isn't any silver in them" "oh hey did you know 1965-1970 halves are also silver?" me yeah, they arent around very much at all, havnt seen any in years....teller says "yeah the guy that checked those found a 1969 and showed us how its silver" me "WOW" I said I will sill take them last bank of the day, walk in there is one of my old vault tellers. Chat for a minute, he says we dont have halves, want to order some, asked what day was delivery, he said weds, asked to come by thurs, he said no problem. Ordered 2 more boxes, so I'm getting 24 this week, if everyone comes through. Got 300$ in cwr dimes and quarters. Did find 5 silver dimes today, but man the big mouthes are killing it for everyone. Atleast there are some coin counters out there for some silver to slide through to the boxes.

I went through my first box of halves last night and this morning. I was hoping for a little beginners luck...um yeah, no such luck. I found absolutely nothing but a bunch of marker marks spread sporadically throughout. Half-way through I got the vibe that everyone and their brother had been through this box. I wrapped everything back up, using the same coin rolls. Now, I just bring this in to one of my banks that I have deemed to be a "dump" bank, right? Any other feedback or suggestions would be much appreciated. I'm not going to give up and will purchase a box each week. That is about all I have time for, it took me about 2 hours to go through this one. I'm sure it will go a lot faster as I do more.

Half hunter. It got that way down here in the Carolina's last year. Not to the extreme you describe. 2 years ago it was easy. It got tough a while ago. The easy days are over I fear.

yeah heard things at other branches also, just alot more these last 2-3 weeks. I dont care getting beat to the rolls, well I do, but keep your mouth shut, buy rolls, leave, get as many as your wallet or you can find that day, search then dump. I'm sure that bank was empty when that guy checked those at the counter with a heard of tellers around.Oh well, still have boxes.

@ halfhunter yep they must be talking about this stuff on TV or something I have noticed some of that at my banks too.
I just ask for what I want, if it looks like the rolls have been marked I still take them and don't say anything, it they say anything about them being checked already I just say, "i check them for error coins too, some of the best error coins I've found are coins other people have missed and they are worth way more than what they are looking for" which is a half truth. I just want them to tell that to the person dumping to think they passed on some good coins to me LOL. But when I am unrolling them an dumping them in bags I do give them a quick check and I have found some that they have missed, but not many.

crhstl welcome to the hunt :D yes you always want to have a different bank that you pick up from and dump to .. if your bank has a coin counter you can go that route .. I dont have coin counters at my banks here and I live in a fairly small area so what I do is go to different branches of the same bank that I have designated my dump bank and will dump 250-350 at each branch so as not to give them to many coins at one time as I dont want to upset them .. although many people on the site here I believe dump several thousand at a time in the same branch so it all depends on what you feel comfortable bringing in and your relationship with the bank

I was listening to my voice messages today and the gal that gave me the attitude at that the bank had called and apologized, she said she shouldn't have taken it out of me and I was right it shouldn't matter how many bags they have to haul to their truck that's their job. So guess we will see how this goes, now I really want to dump a 100 bags or so of zinc pennies in one dump

Halfhunter,
Yes, it seems that more and more tellers are aware of silver. A second PNC branch I have probed a time or so told me this past week that some guy comes and cleans them out of halves. Most other places I have checked also seem to know about halves.
Being nice to tellers and telling them about silver is not likely to increase one's chances of obtaining silver from them. There will be those tellers who then take that information and who start collecting for themselves. Would you not collect as a teller if you found out about silver? (rhetorical question there).
If faced with the "they aren't silver" comment, I always try to re-emphasize that I am a collector of a lot more than silver and then take the halves. Perception of you as a "real" coin collector can sometimes help. In my case, it is true. I have had a collecting hobby on and off since I was a child.
One thing I have noticed is that some tellers do not like to be hammered with requests for halves time after time after time. I think asking for halves is fine, and I do it. Yet, I also try to make an effort not to do it every time I visit and to have some subject matter to discuss as well. If you know a teller is into photography, it doesn't hurt to ask how her hobby is going.
Oh well, got to get some sleep. Looking forward to my order this Wednesday. Hopefully, it will be productive. If not, I will still enjoy being able to hunt halves again. I really have missed the big boxes.

I too tell them all that I am collecting and filling books with my kids, which is true, but I am also getting all the silver I can.
I have thought about telling the tellers that I would buy silver from them at a premium but didn't because I didn't want them to start cherry picking the CWR they sell me now. but think about it, I would pay a % over face if it kept me from having to search all this stuff, let alone how much they probably see in their drawers over a years time.

Kids are great. I take my toddler with me and they love him. Even though he can't ollect proper he loves unwrapping the coins and is cute with the tellers. Makes it more personal.

There is a saying that it is all in the approach. I think there is some truth in this.
