CoinCbass,
I think we are far enough apart to avoid immediate dumps. I live in the Asheville area. :)
I have lived here most of my life but originate from Beaumont, Texas.

I just took my album in with me the other day to show the tellers and thank them for how many holes I have filled so far. They really seemed to like the looks and were thrilled to have been able to help. I've got a great group at my bank.

Thats actually a really good idea to show them what they are helping you do I might have to do that myself once I get the courage to tell them I am a coin collector :{

Agreed, the coin book is a good idea. May get one and start to fill it myself.

I would everyone to be careful on getting cozy with the bank employees. It has it's benefits, especially at first. But word spreads and if it gets to the wrong person in management, they can cut you off for 'wasting resources'. Some people see us as trolls taking advantage of banks. Just be careful. I wasn't.

One other thing I have noticed is the amount of money yopu have in your account. its pretty obvious if you have the bare minimum in an account that you are "using" a bank. if you are able, spread your money out between your accounts so its not so obvious you are just using them for coins.

I only have $50 in my largest ordering bank... usually. However, my paychecks are DD'ed there, so I think that helps. Still haven't withdrawn my last paycheck, now that I think about it...

The bank that 'bent me over' was my primary family checking. Never had any complaints or issues from either side. I had $25k in checking at various times when the terms were good (paid 4.10% interest up to $25k). On the flip side, they never really made any money from me until charging fees for coin. I guess they are looking for someone living check to check, paying overdraft fees.

Owassokie,
Be assured they were making money off of your $25K in one fashion or another. When studying the banking system in college, I remember that banks are only required to hold a certain amount of money per the overall amount of money they are receiving from customers.
So, I would feel pretty safe in saying your $25K was making them money in some other venue. Granted, maybe not a lot, yet I do believe it was making them money somehow. Otherwise, why would they be paying such a decent amount of interest for you to have the account with them?
BTW, should have my two boxes Wednesday. Looking forward to it.

Just having any amount on deposit allows banks to make loans up to their required reserve amount. Once that money goes in and out of loans and deposits a few times, the bank is effectively creating money out of thin air while giving themselves a bit of the profit on each loan. Google "fractional reserve banking".
