I dump all my halves at a different bank chain altogether and I never order any from them. I do order from 4 different banks and I never dump any at any of thoughs banks.

Don- I didn't say you did...I said "if", and offered a possible explanation. I had a bank order me one box of halves before (which was the best box I've searched to date), then refused to order me any more. The fact is, it does cost the banks money handling all that coin. At least your bank offered to let you pay a surcharge by the box. I offered to pay a surcharge at my bank and they told me 1) they didn't know how much it cost and 2) they had no way to charge me for it! (yeah...blew my mind too....a bank that doesn't know how to charge a fee)

Not a super week all around for silver (although 16 40% and 14 90% (all Kennedys) isn't too bad I guess) but one customer roll I checked contained seven circulated Proofs (83,84,89,90,91,2 2000 all S mints of course). Looks like someone was sitting on them and needed the money. Even though once circulated they have essentially no numismatic value, I just can't bring myself to spend or put a Proof back in a roll!

Searched two more FED boxes last night and found: 5 40% silver 1 1951 Franklin
Sometimes it amazes me that these coins are still in circulation, I would love to see the coin inventory at one of the FED reserve branches.

It seems like Silver Eagle is on a tear. Anyone come across halves marked with "J" on them and a date? I've come across quite a few in NJ. Perhaps it is someone on this forum?

Gothic Florin:
I'm from NJ and havn't found any marked liked that yet, but then I don't go thru many half dollar boxes- maybe 1 or 2 a month as I usually stick to Lincoln's & Jeffersons.
I'm getting another box this week. I'll let you know if I end up with any marked with a J and date.

I hit 8 banks today and only found 40 some dollars in halves (only found 1 roll and it was a skunker). One teller had $10.50 in her tray that netted me 3-1967's and a 1979S proof. I stopped back at the bank I had very good luck at almost 2 weeks ago. (the teller who hoards halves was on vacation when I went last time, so they sold me her stash that was loaded with silver). They remembered me and told "Special K" that I was the one that bought all the halves and she wanted to buy them back. She asked me to look through them for "pure silver" and she would buy them off me. I let her down easy and told her there wasn't any good ones in them. Besides, she gave my new friend (the teller who sold them to me) enough grief. So I felt my little white lie would ease the tension.

After seeing all the great finds in this thread I decided to go out and get a box of halves and give it a try... No beginners luck, unfortunately. ONE 40% silver...that's it! No NIFC, No proof. Guess I better find a different bank! I did find about 10 different dates that were AU/BU so I started another album...that should keep me searching.

I bought 730.00 out of a vault last week and came up w/ 30 silver clad, 7 1964 P & D, and 2 1954 D. The merchant teller was all too happy to give them up; she said they had been balancing the vault with 730.00 in halves for the past few years.
