I've been on a steady diet of BU 1993 halves for a long time. I don't see them as a roll but it's not uncommon for me to see 20 per box.

I just finished searching another $1K in halves this morning. Again, no silver anywhere (starting to get the feeling this is a trend), but I did make a complete roll of 1993-D BU halves from one box, and could have made more if I felt like it, but I think one roll is plenty. They must have had a huge stockpile they just decided to get rid of.

Have not been posting my finds as of recent so here is a quick summary from the last 8 boxes:
3 1968-Ds

71-d DDO FS-102

two 1972 DDOs - Finally ... well...sort of!
After searching approximately 6000 1972 JFKs, I now have two identical halves that that are definitely DDOs, but not the normal heavily doubled varieties. And Variety Vista does not seem to have them listed either.
...And no one will answer my thread telling me any info about them (except coop who verified it a DDO but did not know more about it )
https://goccf.com/t/148115

1982 No FG!

I also got several errors including two nice MAD halves - will get/post pics later, a struck through error where the date is hard to see, and an incredibly worn '76 half.

However, the most amazing find...

JFK-Half-Dollar-Roll-Hunters:-Silver,-Proofs-And-Other-Finds

I almost fell out of my chair! Even though I looked through tone of change in the 1970s, I never found a Barber half in the wild. This was an amazing first and something I never expected would happen.

In fact when I removed the wrapper from this roll, I had not looked at the sides of the coins. I was just going through them one by one. Then as I lifted one from the top of the stack in my hand, I noticed a funny looking eagle was on the next coin. I remember starting to think of some foreign coin the pattern would match, but the thought dropped off very suddenly as I recognized what it was. Never would I have thought I would find a Barber half nowadays.

I am still on a slight high from it - simply amazing!

And the weird part is, the very worn 76 JFK I found is a lot more worn more than the 1908-s Barber - who woulda' thunk it?!

Will post pics later of the other stuff.

Just got bad news :(

I'm sorry to have to inform you that we do not have any half dollars available in our branch or at our central vault in Honolulu. It has also been confirmed that the Federal Reserve Bank will not ship any halves to the islands.

Mahalo for your kind understanding,

just received this email from my bank that was ordering me my halves monthly for almost the last year do you guys think I was cut off from someone higher up or could they be out as I thought the bank gets them from an armored car service although do they get from a central bank

@mauijay

Easy way to find out what the "true" story is.

Open a new account at a different bank. Ask for halves and see if the stories match up.

Sounds to me like someone at the bank doesn't want to pay for importing 50 lb boxes of halves anymore.

mrlandpirate - nice proof and Ben

Jack - I've never seen one of the Obama dealios - Hope it stays that way.

North Texas - my last 10 or so boxes were similar - a proof now and again, a few NIFC, but no silver. I've been telling my wife that I hope she's not too offended with all the skunk smell.

Earle - I've seen it before but I cannot imagine how many eyes fell upon that Barber and let it keep going down the line. Glad you got it.

After a few months of nothing really to declare. I got a call from a teller saying she had ($400) some halves. Across from their branch is another bank where I got loads of Ikes and a few silver halves. I stopped there first, picked up 8 CWR's then went and grabbed the $400. The $400 produced a few hole fillers and a proof.

The eight CRW's, on the other hand, produced:

65 x 1
66 x 4
67 x 10
68-D x 7
69 x 5

1962-D ben

83-S proof & 2003-S proof

92-D & 98-D in near pristine MS (look that way anyhow)

2 x 1971-D both clean, not much wear but the "D" mint mark is different. Also maybe the 7 is not the same. Tey're put back study on the weekend.

Congrats on your finds, especially that Barber!

regarding the 1972P DDO,s, I agree with coop- they are definitely DDO'S!

Since Variety Vista (Dr Wiles)only has the one 1972P DDO-001 listed I would send an E mail along with pics of your coins to Dr Wiles for possible new attribution etc.

Good luck!

I really don't roll search just to find silver. The reason I collect Kennedy half dollars is that although I personally do not like the example JFK set in his private life, he was a man who I really think deserves to be on our half dollar. The reasons being he was against the federal Reserve as he saw the mess it was causing back then and especially since he is known for standing up against communism (Cuban Missle Crises specifically).

Looking at my collection, these are the patriotic actions I remember the man for.

So I wonder how JFK would feel that his face was painted over by someone who hired a communist (Van Jones) to be a czar in DC?

Wouldn't it be great if, like on the half dollars, all it took was something as simple as a soak in acetone to legitimately remove the problem?

But I think I will stick to finding the Barber instead. I still am on a high from this. Now when I go through another 100+ boxes do I get to find another one - or will it be a seated Liberty next time?
