Wanted to start a new post, hoping to get the most opinions. I got the Dansco Morgan dollar, two album set yesterday. Couple years back I did a dollar date set, 1878 to date. Here is my problem. I really like the dollar date set. But, some of the coins in it would fill holes in my two album set. Should I take the coins out of the Dollar date set and either have holes or put lower grade coins in it, or even break up the dollar date set and just do the two album set. Or keep the Dollar date set, and keep the better coins in it. The complete Morgan set will take me years to complete. And I know the high priced coins I will have to buy in lower grades. I really am interested in hearing opinion, before I decide what to do with these sets. Here is what I have so far. (Ike's are in holes, just to hold places for GSA dollars. Morgan book one Morgan Book Two Dollar Date set Dealer stock box .. just extras .. for trade .. or just for having more. And my GSA dollars

I'm a fan of the date set album. I have a P mint set and an S mint set. There are too many holes to have an O mint set so I just left that one out. I like the looks of an extra fine or nice very fine no problem coin and that is what I put in the sets. Mint state coins are placed in tubes or TPG holdered if warranted. nlp

I would keep your dollar set together. Sounds like a really nice set.

This is not easy. But since I'm spending your money ( ) I'd lean towards keeping the date set together. It has a rather nicely coherent look aside the obvious early 1890's, and allows you to adjust your sights downward for the Danscos. Indeed, you could even target that one as a "well-circulated" set, and use the nice extras to move downward to two or more replacements. That would integrate the tougher ones nicely.

I was actually thinking about doing the two volume complete set in circulated condition because I'm not a fan of mixing low and high grade coins. Now that silver is low I think I'll start.
I like the look of your date set and if it were me, I would leave it intact, maybe upgrade your 1895 and rotate the stock so to say.

Wow, you have a lot of Morgans! I think if you can afford it, you should try to keep the date set together and buy the ones you need to do the date and MM set. Did you try to fill all the holes you could with your overflow Morgan book?

Thank you for posting your opinion. I really like that idea.
To make the two album set, a circulated set. I think that is what your saying.
I can see now that would fit best, for my style of collecting.
This is a very good example of the great advice you can get on CCF.

I really, really like that dollar date set. It is something I want to tackle one day. Myself, I prefer to keep my sets intact. I am not an upgrader, so that affects my opinion. Leave that dollar date set alone! Work on the new album, it is your latest challenge. Pulling coins from the date set would be cheating.

Again .. Thank you all for posting.
I like the opinions that have been posted.
For now I will be keeping the Date set intact. If anything upgrade some of the coins and move the lower grades to the two album/complete set.

I would keep the dollar-date set intact and pursue the full set as time and money allow. Who knows, a few years from now you could have that close if not complete.
Do have a question for you, at the top of the table in one of your photos ... you have what appears to be a Dansco album that you've purposed for storing coins in flips. Is that your own doing or does Dansco sell without the pages?
I sure have a lot of coins in flips and might want to put some year by year sets together and have a way to store outside a 3 ring binder.

The album you pointed out is what Dansco calls a dealer stock. I bought mine at Wizard coin supply. They come with 8 pages.
Which is about right for larger coins. You can add pages. I would suggest buying extra pages.
If your taking coinsin and out of the album, the pages seem to split if your not careful.
I have a few of these. One I put a set of satin coins from cent to Sac. Worked out very nice.
