They were put in bags during that time. Not in the shipped pallets to the independent rollers we see today. I believe 2001 was the first year the pallet coins started. No more bags to ship them in except from the bags bought from the mint.

Fred Weinberg had one a couple FUN shows ago that he counted 30 some coins. It was about 2.5/3 inches high.

I can't even imagine something like that leaving the mint or getting bagged.

"3 coin bonded set"? I knew the Mint issued sets of coins, but I thought that they were aimed at the collector market ! Do they come in a Mint sealed pack, with a C.O.A.? Should they be sent for slabbing?  |

I have no idea how the system works, but it seems an elementary step to screen the press output so nothing larger than a normal strike could get through. They have to go through *something* to count them for bags - how does that something count a 2-1/2" coin?

Seem likely it something like that would be helped through the process to get into a bag. Idk but if they need a good quality control I'd take that job lol

My thoughts exactly. It's amazing how this got passed any inspection before it left the mint and as you said, "without help." If something like this was able to be known was helped out of the mint, would that make the error less valuable? Edited by BlueSolo
