Too close to Die 2 for me to call. I really want to say the MM is too left and too rotated. Took a good hard look at the seller, and I doubt he'd be able to attribute it; he's an estate liquidator.

If I were the one making the decision to remove it, I'd talk to the seller first, and ask him to take it to an expert. He has Northeast Numismatics and JJ Teaparty right down the road.

Heck. I'm going to contact him.

Edit: No, I'm not. I can't fit the words into one message.

Edit the Second: Me, not find words? I don't think so.

This looks like a twin almost to the 1914 D I posted earlier. The obverses have the same lightly struck look to them.

Two words. Buy certified.

You have to ask yourself. Why is this raw?

Yeah, I'll say it's a real position 2, but will still use 10' pole method on this one.

Some people live on the edge.

Not me. I will be buying this one certified, but will crack it out for the Dansco.

I've pretty much decided any key dates i'll be getting of this series will have to be certified which I thought was simple enough; but how does the counterfeiting of slabs factor in when buying a rare coin on ebay? It still doesn't seem like a sure fire way to get what you think your paying for.

You'll note the auction has been pulled. If I'm right, the seller did that voluntarily, on his own initiative. We've been corresponding, and I explained exactly what my worries were about it and why that was possibly dangerous to him. There's no doubt in my mind he's an honest person, after our talk. With 5 days left I actually recommended he leave it up to keep those bidders captured in case Northeast Numismatics or JJ Teaparty signed off on it.

I sincerely hope nobody here got it pulled. The images weren't perfect enough to be sure, and it's my knowledge of photography, not the coin, which makes me say so.

You are playing with people's livelihoods here. Never forget that.

I just post these fakes that pop up on ebay to this forum. Works as a great learning tool in the future for people who stumble upon this article.

You yourself admitted you weren't sure, yet publicized it anyway. I do not want to ever discourage posting fakes in these pages, just be aware of the size of the bat you're swinging when this is information which will essentially never disappear from public view for the rest of the time electrons exist.
