I've visited the mint before the refurbishment and just a month ago.

My first impression is that the visiting gallery has become significantly smaller. I remember there was a nice collection of gold sovereigns which I don't remember seeing this time around. The Adelaide pound and holey dollar are still there. Probably just excites one for about half an hour.

That said, when you first walk in, the stair is filled with 5 cents and blank planchets which I thought was quite neat. There is a treasure box that's filled with dollar coins and blank planchets as well - I guess it's trying to simulate a box full of "gold".

A neat feature in the mint is that they have a robotic arm called "Titan" that does all kinds of actions when it's in idle mode - from bowing down in front of guests to showing off its power. Another interesting thing I've picked up from the tour guide is that if there is a wooden crate in the packaging area, this meant that the mint is currently striking foreign coins to be sent overseas.

Will try to see if I can upload some photos. Please feel free to share your impression or photos!

It has been decades, since I have been there.
Was at the Perth Mint about a year ago. The tourist part has more of an historic presentation to it than the RAM.

Do they still have the station where you "mint" your own coin.
My kids liked that when we visited.

rggoodie - yes it's still there. The refurbishment has the entrance on the other end. This means that as soon as you enter in the front, you see the shop. Kinda sneaky. The press is on the first floor and you walk up the stairs to check out the minting operation as well as the small gallery of amazing coins.

I got three 'mint your own' Barcelona $1 coins when I last visited. That will tell you how long since I was last there!

At least I saw the 1909 pattern Florin with the map of Australia on it, and that was interesting.

Aha! I've wondered where that ended up.
