I am looking for information about this coin. I have found info about this token in Copper or Brass, the issue is that I cannot find anything about this token made of Silver. I have not been able to find any version in silver yet I have one made in Silver or Silver/Lead .
Thank you

It's plated and probably not with silver and done at home.

It is definitely not plated. Under extreme magnification at the hole it is solid silver and I expect the base metal with the silver may be lead

It sure looks like plating that has partially peeled off on the high spots. If you have another half-penny, what is the weight difference? Just by hefting it, you should be able to tell if it's lead or not. How about a photo of the other side?

What if it was plated after the hole was made? Wouldn't it still look like it was silver all the way through?
I have never heard that of this issue there was silver ones made. Perhaps you hold the one and only one? If that's the case you have something special here.. maybe send it to SPP to get it XRF'ed and verfiy the composition... then I would send it off to get it slabbed!

I have uploaded pictures of front and obverse . the actual weight is 5.5 grams. I weighed a penny of the same period which was thinner in cross section and slightly smaller and it weighed 6.0 grams.

since the hole was already there, I made a tiny scratch in the ole and viewed under high magnification. It is solid and not plated. There are no mentions of a metal other than silver being used. I was wondering if it was the original proof version. I have ruled out fake, since being a different metal and colour, it would not be able to be used or traded. I am sure you know the sound of a silver coin if flipped or dropped on a table, this coin sounds the same.

It looks to me like it may be cast.

I could agree that there is a possibility of being cast. But why, for what purpose. I am stuck on thinking this is a one of a kind special coin. Wish someone who is a real expert will comment rather than speculate. I have already done that.

I would seriously hate to be your car mechanic!
customer: my car is making an awful noise can you fix it... mechanic: when does it make the noise, what does it sound like... how have you been driving? Customer: geeze what's with all the questions.. just get a REAL mechanic already!
Sorry for providing input... I'm out!

sorry if you were offended by the statement. there was not intension of offending, if anything I do appreciate your input. I was making a general statement, not specifically intended to ask someone who had some definitive answers and possible direction. Again, thank you for your help

Quote: the actual weight is 5.5 grams. I weighed a penny of the same period which was thinner in cross section and slightly smaller and it weighed 6.0 grams. That seems odd. Shouldn't a silver coin be heavier than a copper one of the same size? Even more so if the copper coin is slightly smaller?

mr. Nickel That is correct, silver is heavier than copper of equal volume. Lead is heavier than copper. This coin gets more puzzling every time I look in to it

A penny of the same period should weigh about 15 grams. The halfpenny in copper should weigh about 7.5 grams. There is something seriously amiss with both your penny and halfpenny.
