this was in my stash of quarters and what set it apart from the others is that it was shinier and brighter than the others. And one of the pictures I took of it it really reflected the flash.

without flash

with flash
2000-D-Quarter-Maryland-State-Quarter-Is-This-A-Proof?

now are some pictures in better lighting
2000-D-Quarter-Maryland-State-Quarter-Is-This-A-Proof?

2000-D-Quarter-Maryland-State-Quarter-Is-This-A-Proof?

and here it is posed with a 2000P Maryland State Quarter

2000-D-Quarter-Maryland-State-Quarter-Is-This-A-Proof?

Would this be a proof?

That's not a proof.

It carries a "D" mintmark, which can be seen under "In God We Trust".

That means that it was struck at the Denver Mint, and State Quarter proofs were only struck at San Francisco and would thus have an
"S" mintmark.

I don't think so, with these modern proofs you can spot a proof in the mix of business strikes from a mile away. that's just how contrasting the devices and fields are on these moderns...

I didn't even think of that. the coin posted appears to have an EDS reverse coin but that is all.

Probably one of the first few hundred coins struck with that die.

Yep ...Denver mint coin ... Not a proof.

But ... I have seen some P and D mint quarters, sent in to
be graded .... And get a proof like grade.

I am thinking the picture does not capture well, the mirror
like surfaces your coin might have

Still not a proof, but as we say at the local coin shop

so how would this be graded? and I'll likely encase this in something since this coin will probably go up in value 20 years from now.

No, just a thing, although one would expect the nicest strikes from a newer die. It's still subject to the nicks of Mint handling and circulation.

1995 Quarters haven't gone up in value.

Even though it has good detail and reflective surfaces,
It still has enough small hits so that it would not get a high grade.

For me to really want to keep clad quarters for the long term,
I want them to be MS 66 or MS 67 or better.

The coin you have pictured would not make those grades.

If your just putting coins away to make set(s), then a coin
Like this would be fine.

Of course ...that is just my opinion/suggestion.

Proof is not a condition, it is how a coin is made. They not only have flat mirrored fields, but sharp squared rims. The best way to see the difference is to compare it to an known proof (in hand).
