G'day guys, just saw this 2c classified as a mint error but can't for the life of me figure out how. Is this a genuine mint error or have they got it wrong and its PMD?

That is definitely post mint damage and as Publius says a Dryer Coin.

Here's a ccf thread on an example of this: https://goccf.com/t/115336

I hope you didn't purchase this coin Cockatoo_coins.

Looks more like a spooned coin then a Dryer Coin to me.May even be in a copper frame of some sort.

Yep, spooned or dryer. Either way, it definitely didn't come out of the mint looking like that.

The more spectacular the "error", the more one should question it when it turns up in extremely worn condition. A "mint error" like this got worn all the way down to Fine? Without any of the users noticing it had a rather unusual shape and size?

APCGS? FAIL.

It's spooned. The edge is hammered. Normally done with silver coins to create a ring. Who knows why this is done. Maybe a test piece before attempting with a silver coin or someone that was really bored. Example can be found here: http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Ring-...-Silver-Coin To call this an error is simply shocking.

APCGS is not any better than a Chinese knockoff product. Characteristics of a knockoff product include a resemblance of a well established brand, image AND a poor quality product. You expect such products from a third world country. I would like to know if any Australian business promote such unethical behaviour. Unless someone begs to differ, this is one business that should shut down.

Perhaps the letter A stands for abysmal.

I'd say 'Atrocious' would also fit the bill, as well as 'Awful', 'Appalling', 'Abominable.

Maybe every time they (A...S) are mentioned, any one of these words could be substituted for the A.
