Or even uncertified bank notes that are housed in plastic bill holders. I've amassed quite a few and I started putting them on display in my coin room in my new display cabinets (which have lights inside). I was showing a friend my progress, who then cautioned me about the paper bills being exposed to light (natural or otherwise). So, I'm putting the question forward to the brain trust of the CCF membership.

I look forward to your feedback. Thx all!

Hi Skip... I probably wouldn't put them under any light, I keep mine (my certified ones) in a secert compartment in the wall of our house... in a folder in very dark environment.

I know, we probably should have them in a bank safety deposit box.

It's tough to find a SDB to fit certified notes....I'm on a long waiting list for a larger box at the bank, so I'm using them for coasters on my coffee table in the meantime.

Thanks Shafta9a, but I think it's kind of hard to enjoy them that way. Is there no safe way to display them, without the paper deteriorating?

The 5x8 mylar holders fit quite nicely in Globe-Weiss file boxes, the old-fashioned type. They are stout boxes, with a sliding keeper that maintains the notes upright.

If you have enough valuables, I suggest a sturdy home safe, such as a large gun safe, bolted to the floor and wall.

There might be divergence in this thread...

i) How to store notes safely....
ii) How to display notes safely....

While I think there are plentiful options for storage that is all your personal choice in the end as to what you can afford and what you're willing to do.

With respect to displaying notes.... My opinion has been and will always be that papermoney IS art! It should be displayed! Now go to places that display art and important paper documents and find out HOW they display their works of art. Direct sunlight is definitely a no no. Moisture is also a big issue as you don't want foxing or mould to start to form on your notes.

I am in the process of renovations but eventually when things are done.. one of my "hobby projects" will be to construct a picture frame that I will be able to interchange the note to display a different one regardless if it's one of my graded notes or not.

I will be honest I don't know what light is best but I use LED strip lights.. The reason I like LED lights are they emit little to no heat.

If you're using a display I would also recommend you have a cover the display so the items are not always exposed.
