Poll Question
I bought this recently the way it is in the CCCS slab for $30. I never would have sent this in for certification but here it is in its 2 layers of plastic. Untouchable and difficult to examine and admire. I can't even take good pictures.

What should I do?

I voted to break that baby free, I trust that you will keep her safe once she is loose plus it is better to examine the error and learn from it when holding it. I feel that when you can hold it in your hand and look at it it helps you theorise and learn by your self how it could happen. post pics when she os out of her prison though, please.

Why would you need the opinions of other collectors? If you don't like the coin in a holder then remove it. If you like it there then leave it alone. It is your coin, do as you like. The only opinion that counts is yours.

Because I enjoy the opinions of my fellow collectors. And it's a fun poll :)

Leave it in the holder....

If you remove it, there is no real gain except a better looky-loo, which would prove nothing as it's already graded.

Someone already spent the money on "slabbing" it anyways.

Just my 2 cents, but it's your coin & your call.

I voted to leave it in the pouch. But if you're not entirely familiar with the error it would be good to slice the coin out and go over it with a loupe. You can always save the certificate with it.

You have answered your own question. Hard to view through two layers
of plastic and you would not have certified the coin if it was raw.

I fail to understand why anybody would certify a coin only to be put in packaging like this. Almost as bad as collecting Mint Sealed Proof and Mint Sets from the US from back in the flat-pack days.

Also, keep in mind that the grade is nothing special and the attribution is wrong. This is a Double Strike with Uniface Reverse -- period. It is not an Indent Strike. The Indent Strike would have been the coin that this one was struck into for the second strike. If you had both coins it would have been called a mated pair.

I had no intention of setting it free when I first purchased it 2 months ago but my frustration started when I tried to photograph it.no matter what I tried with lighting (or no lighting) I was not able to capture a decent pic.

It really got me thinking about what the consensus of fellow collectors would be in this situation. I know it's my choice in the end but I still find the results so far to be very interesting.

Thanks for all of your replies :)

Thanks for the clarification on the attribution Ken.

so now the slab has the wrong attribution so I suspect the poll may change! Lol. At this time the poll suggests leaving it in the slab 9 votes to 7.

Keep voting please!!

I said leave it in the holder, but I want to change my vote now knowing that the holder is wrong.
The topic/poll should read - "Should I break this error coin out of this slab with incorrect attribution noted?"
