I haven't seen a lot of JFK coins so I'm not sure if it's machine or Die Deterioration or an actual double die. " in god" and "we trust" along with the date and liberty seem to have some extent of doubling. the reverse the U and N look doubled. thanks for your input! if you want to see a close up photo of an area let me know! tks

Looks like Machine Doubling to me. Not sure on this one now ... I was looking at the reverse when you mentioned the U and N.

Although a bit hard to see even with zooming in on the date, I believe you do have a DDO. The T and R in TRUST appear to have a split serifs - which were the easiest things for me to see on the 71D DDOs when roll searching.

There are two noted 1971-D DDO in the Kennedy series and they are listed at this link through NGC;

I don't see any seperation of seriffs? Better pictures clearer and closer would help but I'm not seeing anything as of yet

There are 17 different doubled dies listed by CONECA for the obverse of the 1971-D Kennedy half dollar. A number are nice. A really nice on has been just been listed by CONECA and can be found here:
http://varietyvista.com/1971DDDO017%20half.htm

You can get descriptions for all of them here:

Here is one of the images from the top link as a teaser.
