It's "tray of shame" time again!

Not quite the quality with which I've been spoiled in the past, but still too high grade to pass on at a cull price.

I don't see any obvious signs of wear. Great find.

Man lucky, when you walk in I'm convinced the pretty girls in the tray see you coming and start jumping out to the top like a visit to the Mustang ranch!

Same as the 1898, no less than AU58 for me and very possibly MS. Another great pick for the price.

It might be that this coin's not being an obvious blazer (and my photography is biased toward showing detail over reflectivity) is what's retarding estimations as to its grade. I'd reamark that toning, even ugly toning that somewhat impairs luster, shouldn't affect the grade. With PCGS particularly, I've seen some really dark & unappealing coins that nevertheless received high MS grades. Aside from gross mishandling, it's wear (or lack thereof) that's supposed to dictate whether a coin comes in as uncirculated or not. Whenever I rate a coin as AU here, I always try to point out the specific areas of the coin where I see any breaks in the original surfaces.
