Got this back from grading: can you see what's wrong w/ this coin? These are the best I can do for now in the way of pix, Dave sez I need to go to the photo forum and get some lessons! I've tried none the less to show the color, and the fact that it's a cameo strike!

FS-302? Should not be a proof, can't tell from the photos. The rim says proof to me. I'd say PR62BN, lots of carbon spotting.

Here's the grade it received. I couldn't tell it's color had been altered.

Oh. That is interesting. I wonder how they figured that out.

I've had two red cents, one an Indian and the other a 1931-S Lincoln, both come back from NGC with "altered color" designations. I, too, was surprised and mystified.

I don't know how it's done or how to detect it.

Dang, I can empathize. They've seen a lot of them, so they are probably right. Everyone makes mistakes though.

I've submitted hundreds of coins to PCGS and NGC over the years, many with colorful album and envelope-toning (including a couple of yellow and green-toned Indian cents) and I must say that only 1 or 2 odd ones came back in AC body bags that disappointed me. Overall the TPGs do a pretty good job.
