Picked this coin up out a foreign silver bin.

Spent some time figuring out the date, I think it is a 1903.

I know it is not in great shape, but will fill a empty hole.

Hoping for opinions. Is it real? Weighs 26.8 grams.

Of course, it is real. A common silver yen of that era. I am interested in how much did you pay for it? Henry

Looks genuine to me as well. Not a bad price to pay as a nice coin would cost a fair bit these days.

Again ... Thanks

Coins like this. ... Look better in hand. When I got the pictures to
My computer ... I started thinking .. Oh no ...not a very good looking coin.

No one mentioned ... So I guess I got the date right.

If I have it right
Of the six symbols
First two = Meiji
Third symbol = 3
Forth symbol = 10
Fifth symbol = 6

Not sure of the about the sixth symbol ... Does it mean "year"

The weight is a bit low, but it is very worn. The details look OK.
Even in that condition, I doubt you could find one for that price in Japan.

The date is correct.

It reminded me that I bought this coin for around 20 dollars from US about 10 years ago. Cleaned but still pretty nice. Damaged / heavily chopmarked coins were sold for about 10 - 15 dollars. Mind you, this was when silver was at 5 - 7 USD / ounce.

Japan-1903-One-Yen

For the past 10 years, Japanese coin prices have been under rated most likely due to the deflated economy. It seems that the prices are slowly going up this year in particular nicer UNC coins. Gold coins have always been absurdly expensive and it's only going up in one direction.

And to finish it off, I decided to post a better condition coin

Coin looks okay to me!

If only I could find something as nice as that at my LCS.

Good catch!
