I've recently been trying to go through bank rolls of half dollars. I have gone through 25 rolls now and I haven't found anything interesting.
Does anyone think that there is still a chance at all of running across any silver in the bank rolls?

Lots of silver still out there. I have never found any. You could be getting someones drop offs.

I did confirm with the bank that they ship off the brought in coins and order more from the reserve.
Anyone have a guess whats left out there? Maybe its something like 1:1000 coins?

My grandmother brought me home $1500 in halves from Florida two boxes were already searched unfortunately but the 3rd wasn't I found two 40% kennedys they are out there it is a lot of work. The more bulk you get the better the odds. Best score was $140 in customer rolls I found 14 40% kennedys not too shabby

Basically YES you can find them BUT you have to love the pursuit because returns vs sweat equity is extremely low mlMy guess is almost all you find will come from an estate where they took the modern loose "change" to the bank... but that makes me think... Does coinstar HQ have a special mechanical sort feature to recognize and keep silver for themselves? I'm sure that question has been discussed here before though

The few finds I have had are usually 40 percent silver clads. IMHO, not worth my time and effort...but to each their own ;)
Good question, Cascade. I have a coin star like machine at my local bank and it outright rejects any coin that varies from current cupronickel standards. However, do the Coinstars actually keep the silver and screw the customer....I dunno.

You'll need to search a lot more than 25 rolls and I think the return is less than 1/1000 coins.

I'm a bank teller and I got 4 40% halves in a deposit yesterday. Doesn't happen often but it was a pretty sweet score.

So 1/1000 huh? I'll have to order a box and give it a shot. I'm actually having a lot of fun going through all these because my 6 yr old boy is right there looking mystified haha.
I found a 38 nickel in bank rolls about an hour ago. It was funny to describe just how old 77 years is

I'd say on average 1 per 1000, but check out the CRH section. There are long skunk streaks and huge scores out there. My best was 3 out of 4 customer rolls being silver with mostly 40%, but a handful of 1964 90%. I've also gotten $7 in all 90%. Those are my 2 best scores in 1.5 years of lightly searching. It's about being in right place at right time.

My 1 out of 1000 is bank rolls. If you could get volume of customer rolls you'd have good luck, but 9 out of 10 times you ask most banks have none.

Remember that roll searching has been going on and on and on for a long time. And since most people that do that return rolls right back to banks. What your getting more and more is what they already went through.

I got lucky with my bank. They have offered to order an entire box of half dollars for me. They are even exploring to idea of ordering ikes from the Fed reserve!

My best finds have overwhelmingly come from dealers, mostly at shows. Auctions and antique shops have yielded some great finds, too. As a kid, back in the 1950-60's, I constantly looked through rolls and occasionally bags of cents, but my finds were negligible.
To my experience, arming oneself with knowledge will yield far greater finds than lady luck.
