After seeing the "Let's see your Nickles" post in the US Modern Coins section,

I figured let's do one for our Canadian nickels, but just the 12 sided ones...

This is for all 12 sided Canadian nickels from:

1942-1943 4.54 g 21.21 mm, 12-sided 88% copper, 12% zinc ("tombac") World War II

1944-1945 4.54 g 21.21 mm, 12-sided chrome-plated steel (World War II)

1946-1951 4.54 g 21.21 mm, 12-sided 99.9% nickel

1951-1954 4.54 g 21.21 mm, 12-sided chrome-plated steel (Korean War)

1955-1963 4.54 g 21.21 mm, 12-sided 99.9% nickel

Here are a few of mine to start:

Are you sure about including the 1963? My set goes from 1942 to 1962.

The info I took it from was from themint.ca & wikipedia

http://www.mint.ca/store/mint/about....VWO_Xk3bKpo

"1942 - 1963 The 12-sided coin
Five-cent coins were made of nickel from 1921 to 1942. However, nickel's importance in the production of war materials demanded the development of another metal for coinage. Tombac, a kind of brass, was chosen as the replacement and was used until 1946. The 5-cent coin featured 12 sides to distinguish it from the one-cent coin"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nickel...nadian_coin)

"1955-1963 4.54 g 21.21 mm, 12-sided 99.9% nickel"

You can count on the Mint to get it wrong. No 12 sided coins were struck in 1963, nor were any tombacs struck for circulation after 1943. The Mint's site is one of the lamest sources of information on Canadian coins.

I'll post some pics in a while.
There are a few 1944 tombacs out there somewhere.

8,000 tombac 5 cent pieces were also produced in 1943, dated 1944.

I don't have it with me and I don't have a full obverse pic, but the reverse die cracks ID it as a Zoell FL174e.

CCF member Castor called this raised rim error;

Quote:
Wire edge
The thin, knife-like projection seen on some rims created when metal flows between the collar and the dies.
