My explanation is that buffaloes just have many more design high points (i. e. about as high as the rim) which get more worn down, or maybe they just circulated a lot more.

The date is in low relief compared to the area around it, which is actually on the device (high) and not in the field (low).

this thread inspired me to do five rolls on a whim as well
didnt find a Buff but I did find my first 2009 in the wild

Finding a 2009 is probably just as good as finding a Buffalo.

I disagree, I'm feeling toward G details. F coins would have a full date and not a partial; and the buffalo would not be worn into the rim.
