Hi, new to Coin Community,I am an avid CRH'er and have noticed that most of my great scores found CRH have been from buying CWR or even Machine Wrapped Rolls In Very Small Quantities. Whenever I go to a new store, I playfully ask the cashier if I could have a roll of nickels or pennies. Most of the time, they will give me a roll or two no problem. Just today, I found a buffalo nickel( dateless) from a single roll of nickels from a trader joe's. I recently purchased 2 rolls of halfs from my local bank which had 17 silvers! Including my 1st walker. My best find overall though was when I got an 1863 civil war token in vf shape when asking for 1 roll of pennies from a local wawa gas station, my question is, how many of you have found great scores in small quantities? Please share
I got 5 40% silver Kennedys including a 1969-S proof in one roll I got from a bank in Richmond, Virginia when I was there on a business trip about 10 years ago.
I've had two boxes of pennies I picked up (25$ each). Almost done with the 2nd box. Found the usual couple of nice die cracks, little off rotation, off center. The other day though I found a fs033.55 1972 DDO. It is the least prominent one,but once you check that coin over and confirm what you are seeing. It is a awesome feeling being able to snag a cool coin out of circulation like that
Back when I had a girlfriend working at a bank (early 1990's), she would call me whenever people would deposit anything that "looked old." I got several solid rolls of wheat cents and silver more than a couple times.
Many solid rolls of 40% halves in less than 5 rolls in the past. My wife lucked out when she received 2 solid rolls of steel wheats, she told me she'd found 'silver pennies' As a teller, she's been given multiple solid silver rolls in the past.
When I listen to LED ZEPPELIN...so do my neighbors... Roll hunting since '77 Dirt fishing since '72
My mom had some old penny rolls and I asked if you could go through them and she said yes and that they were probably old wheat pennies so I was excited to say the least... Found a 1912 S penny in one of the rolls...
Almost all of my silver has come from loose change, either from a purchase, or from a customer at my old job as a cashier. Most everything else seems to be the opposite though--I hardly find anything good unless I get a complete box.
It's funny you mention your best finds have been in small quantities, as have mine. In one day I went to one of my local banks and asked if they had any customer wrapped rolls of dimes, the teller said she only had three rolls today but they had broken open as they were wrapped in newspaper and she had to re roll them, she said there were silver ones in there, I looked at the little hole in the side of the roll and saw a few silvers, and thought to myself, oh, there's probably like five in there, which I was thrilled about. Got home and opened the roll and there was a Mercury dime on the end... my heart started racing, opened the whole roll and it was solid Canadian silver, Rosevelts, and Mercury dimes! then I opened the second roll and it was the same thing!! 100 silver dimes in $10.00 face! Then, I felt lucky and thought I should go and try some nickels... which was the first time I had Roll Hunted Nickels, I don't remember how much I got but it was around $20.00 face. Turned out to be someones collection they cashed in. Almost put together an entire date set of 1937 to 1962 nickels in two rolls. I find it strange that small quantities have turned out to work very well for me, I can't figure out a scientific reason as to why. Other than I know it's totally random.
yeah I was stunned to find it... My mom joked was it only good in San Francisco... I went looked and based its value to be around $25 on its condition which wasn't too bad at all because everything was readable...
