We lost our power the other night so instead of using LED lanterns, which we have in all rooms of our house, we opted to light candles. I even used my handheld candle holder to walk up the stairs. Kinda took me back to 1786 I was surprised how much light it gives off in pitch darkness. swcoin.ecrater.com

Very cool ...
Thanks for reminding me to put candles on my shopping list.
Hurricane season is here, for us in Florida.
It always make me wonder how many people could make it, if we lost power for a extended period of time, like a year or more.

I lose power quite often up here, at times I have had to pull the generators out to keep the fridge and freezer going.

It might be .... Interesting.
To have a place set up, where you could live like they did in the 18th century.

I've lost power at my house 7 times so far this year. We've had some rough weather here in Texas. I hope you don't have to spend too much time in the 18th century V. It's fun for a while but that kind of fun has it's limit.

Yeah, I don't want to catch the plague or yellow fever!
I still need a generator..that's on my list big time with an earthquake imminent.

I love the smell of paraffin in the morning.

It's probably better than whale oil.
And most colonial era candles were probably beeswax not paraffin. (Paraffin is derived from petroleum.)

I went through Hurricane Andrew in South Florida. Was without power for 11 days. South Florida in August without a/c is about as miserable as you'd like to get. I remember sleeping on our porch every night and listing to the sound of gunfire in the background.

Quote: And most colonial era candles were probably beeswax not paraffin. I think tallow was more common. Regardless, this setting is not that authentic. The candles look modern and I see at least two anachronisms in that photo. Maybe he needs to put some old copper out on the table.
