Hi all,
I have been collecting UK errors for some time but have reached a point now where my contacts have either stopped dealing in the market or simply don't have any at this moment in time. I have a fairly extensive collection but am always looking to add more to my collection.
Whilst I would primarily like to know if there are any UK coin dealers, I would also be very interested in seeing any UK error coins people may have so please feel free to post images here too!

To be perfectly honest Beeston, I don't know of any dealers that 'deal in errors'.
OK, the ones that sell modern decimal coinage will occasionally have things like the undated 20p or Olympic swimming error in their stock, but I don't get the impression errors are as popular in the UK as, say, in the US.
Of course I could be wrong ... it's not an area I collect so what do I know? There are people who specialise in coin curios (things like coins made into jewellery, belt buckles or spoons) and exonumia such as coins engraved as 'love tokens'
Maybe contact a few dealers and see what they say?

I hear the Spink USA is going to be auctioning a major collection of UK errors in September. You might want to watch for it.

Thank you for the info guys. Indeed you are correct Tom, errors aren't as big a deal in the UK as they are in the US but that's something I feel will change in time.. for the moment, I'm quite happy picking up errors with little competition. I say that and in recent years I have noticed some error pieces are demanding a higher premium than they used to.
Bill, I will get in touch with Spink and see whether they can confirm/deny this.. thank you!

I would be interested in what you learn from Spink USA. It may be a bit early to get information, as the collection is just now being processed.

This is my best UK error coin. UK 20P Mule 2008 Undated I do have quite a lot of other UK errors, but don't have images done of them yet. Mostly Cuds, Die Cracks and laminations I think. Might be too insignificant for what you're seeking.

Just to check Beeston, are we talking about modern coins here? Because there are quite a few earlier error coins. William III in particular seems to have had poor luck with As being used instead of Vs, missed letters etc.
Of course, many/most of these are listed in Spink's annual guide and so, being known and recognised, are sometimes a bit pricy compared to more modern issues.

Hi Tom, yes I refer to modern error coins, in places where QCing is apparently completed

I have a "thing" for 50p errors so I guess I'd like to find some more people out there who may be able to point me in the right direction. I appreciate errors from a number of countries and with various faults however, I have always found when it comes to collecting, I have needed a focus..otherwise I would literally buy everything and have no money for anything else!
