This 21-D has some wild die cracking going on. Both obverse and reverse have interesting cracks. I think this one is a 1L2. Really interesting coin. Always looking for everyone's thoughts...

1L is a really photogenic VAM, especially in LDS like this one. It's indicative of just how far the Mint was pushed in 1921 to produce all of these. There's a reason why that's a Key Date for most other mintages. 1921 VAMs are just one clear indicator (and the cause) of a very_bad year at the US Mint.

There is a "Holy Grail" coin in the back of my head with this one. It's the terminal die state, where the break above OF falls away all the way to AM or at least becomes radically displaced. You can see that entire piece about to fail in this example. I'll bet it(they) got struck; it's only a matter of whether it(they) left the Mint or not.
