Are they still in business? I was going to sumbit my 1931 S LWC for grading to them when I ran into this thred: https://goccf.com/t/105973However, their website looks good to me. If I could get clarification on PCI, and maybe a recommendation for a cheap grading company that would be awesome! http://pcicoins.com/

They will authenticate, but your coins will not be marketable.

If all you care about is authenication I'd go with ANACS. Free to join and good monthly "insider" grading specials. Not as marketable as PCGS or NGC, but still "market acceptable" more than PCI, NNC, Accugrade, etc.
Reasonable fees and quick turnaround time, too.

Yeah, imo stay away from PCI. ANACS is the way to go.

I believe PCI is still in some kind of limited business - I saw one 2015 ASE in a PCI slab on ebay. But you have to be careful, PCI is not all the same company... There were 4 or 5 iterations before it was bought sold to DLRC (who renamed it DGS - Dominion Grading Service) and then when they closed it up sold the assets to (maybe through another set of hands) the owner of PCA (boiler room) (of the recent coin fraud findings). That was 2010-2011 Then there is the current 2012 PCI... (with a label that looks like a bullet train on tracks) judging by the cert#s, they've done under 8K coins in 3.5 years. Every s/n I've seen in 2012.02/9999 The oldest PCI coins are the green labels with 2 codes on the bottom line of the reverse. But any assumption that they will all upgrade is questionable as they've been picked over several times by now. The solid gold label is what I call "Blind Squirrel Grading" (as in even a Blind Squirrel occasionally finds a nut).

Quote: The oldest PCI coins are the green labels with 2 codes on the bottom line of the reverse. The oldest PCI coins were in photoslabs and there were four generations of those.

Hi everyone I have not added to much of the conversation lately but when I read this post I felt compelled to do so . I have a lot of respect for the old PCI graded coins however recently I sat down with Randy Campbell from ICG. I had purchased a 1914 p quarter eagle graded AU58 by PCI in one if the new holders probably graded in 2012. The coin looked good, I cracked it out to submit. It took Randy Campbell not more than 10 seconds to tell me it was counterfeit, and also offered to write a letter certifying his reasons for me. I told him that I cracked it out of a PCI slab. He quickly stated that they don't have a guarantee of certification. I looked real hard on the website. There is no mention of a guarantee or where you can check certification numbers. So I would not count on them to authenticate as well

Fair enough Conder I crossed companies with slab generations. Of course you are correct that there were 4 generations of SLABS before the small cut corner slab came into use, but just one COMPANY.
FWIW, I also left out the Hallmark company that developed the slab, rights to same which were purchased by PCI.
When PCI died after Slade/Beardsly the assets were bought by the DLRC company (John Feigenbaum) which in August 2008 started up and then closed in August 2010 Dominion Grading Service (DGS).
After that there are three known PCIs -
Kevin McNerney in August/September 2010 Anthony J. Delluniversita from November 2010 to December 2011 The current company since February 2012 (owner unknown)
If Dom's coin really was graded in Feb 2012, then this last entity is the one we are talking about for recent submissions.
If there is any possibility it was really 2011, then it's one of the Delluniversita coins. See case 2:12-cv-00401 Document 153 from the Southern District of TX.
PM me if anyone wants the pdf of the decision - it's a public record, no reason for all of us to incur PACER fees.

PCI and the Delluniversita's were found guilty of Fraud and Racketeering under the RICO act and were ordered to pay $2 Million. They basically purposely over-graded coins for a dealer to inflate their worth: http://www.coinweek.com/coin-clubs/...eering-laws/
