I just bought this 1882 cc thinking it was a VAM 3D and seems to be. This is a R7 but I read about that it isn't so rare.

Could you please confirm that this is a VAM 3D, what grade do you think this could get and any opinion on real rarity grade of this coin.

Here are the pics

I agree with the VAM 3d .. seems to be a later Die state since its showing the Die Crack/break around the *Dot* By the E and P infront of Her forehead ..

As for grading . its always subjective . so many different opinions so its honestly hard for me to give u a positive *this will def grade at* statement ..

But from what I can see (and comparing it to mine in hand) I would give it atleast a ms62 or so . roughly just judging by what I can see in the hairlines being slightly worn and same for the eagles breast . feilds look clean which is a plus .. so again grading is such a hard thing to ask u will get ball parks really untill u send her on out to a third party .. Id suggest anacs if ud like to have the VAM listed on the label PCGS wont attribute this VAM ..

Hope that I was of some help .
Nice coin . I'm a fan of the 1882-cc's .. I'm working on tring to get some more of the die progression ..

Good luck hunting .

At the time of discovery in 2009 when Leroy designated the Rarity (as is true today), you just_don't_expect a die with this many breaks to last very much longer. The laws of physics demand that the thing fly apart at any moment, especially with the obverse being the hammer die and acting against gravity in addition to everything else. It would seem intuitive that this one would be R-7.

As it turns out in the real world, this die apparently lasted longer than it had any right to.
