Okay, so I am going to try to explain my thought process a little here. If you don't want to read a novel you may skip to the end where I will recap.
Me, looking through a bunch of half dollars:
'Oh man, these are so neat. Wait a second, is that one of those
Greaser things I heard of?'

'Huh! That's pretty cool. I should examine this further.'

'What's going on with some of these letters? They look pretty sketchy.'

'WAIT, is that a split serif? Could that be a doubled die? Oh wow!' (it is much more prominent than I am able to photograph, I apologize.)

'HANG ON NOW, is it doubled on the back too?'

'There are no split serifs on this side, it's probably just mech doubling or something else I don't really know much about. I should research this before I ask about it and sound like a dumb idiot on there again.'
One hour later.
'Man, I give up. I'm gonna finish going through these, maybe I could find another 1971 to compare it to.'
'Oh hey! 1971! I should compare this with my weird one.'

'WHAT IS HAPPENING?! Are they ALL like this?'
Long story short, do all 1971 Kennedies have weird lettering?
On the first one, there was a distinct split in the serifs on a few letters of the obverse, same with the second one I found. They also both have doubling on the back, but the first one's spread is considerably larger. Either way, I don't get it and I'd be grateful for any answers.
