Heritage Auctions - DALLAS — Heritage Auctions has placed on hold the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Donald G. Partrick Collection Auctions at the request of Mr. Partrick's family. "Because the family has no immediate use for additional funds, and Don continues to delight in his collection, they proposed an extension agreement," said Heritage Co-Chairman, James Halperin. "Don and his family are wonderful clients and a pleasure to work with, and we are very grateful for the trust they have placed in us. Therefore, we were happy to accommodate their wishes. We look forward to conducting the remaining Partrick auctions at a later date, to be determined." Remaining highlights include, among other treasures, the finest Brasher doubloon, as well as astonishing quality sets of New Jersey and Connecticut state coinage by die variety. Donald Partrick and family issued the following statement: Mr. Donald G. Partrick wishes to thank Heritage Auctions for the outstanding catalogue and incredible results achieved for the sale of my coins, part 1. It was truly a wonderful experience. It exceeded my expectations and I look forward to my future sales with Heritage. I love my coins and would like to continue to enjoy them a while longer. Can't say I blame him really, now he's freed up some cash to buy even more cool stuff for his collection. Good on Heritage for handling it this way and not holding him to a signed contract forcing him to sell now.

Quote: Good on Heritage for handling it this way and not holding him to a signed contract forcing him to sell now. Oh, I am sure he paid a hefty "convenience" fee to be released from his sales contract. He probably signed a contract giving Heritage exclusive rights to any future sales of his coins, too. I bet Heritage is perfectly happy to let the first results stew in the market and raise awareness so future results will be even better!

There's a message in there about the state of the market.

SSDDave I was thinking along those lines as many high-end collections are hitting the market all at once Gardner, Newman, Pogue,Simpson, etc. There are only so many buyers at the high end of the spectrum and with so many collections coming to market I think they're competing for buyers. A person of modest means won't/doesn't have the resources available to drop $10,000+ on a single coin. Even $5,000+ is expensive for some. Just my Two Cents worth. -MV

How long before the trickle down effect benefits my wish list? (The $100 range.)

Gotta always read between the lines with corporate spin announcements like this.
The coin market has been "soft" for collector coins valued below 1000$ for quiet a while now. Maybe the big boys pockets are getting a little soft and they are being very selective about what they are buying?
And maybe David Hall can make this a focus in his next You Tube "Rare Coin Marketplace" review?
