Had some spare money this week so I bought one for $12.99(including shipping) out of curiosity. Here's what I got: 1 - 1901 IHC1 - 1902 IHC2 - 1907 IHC1 - 1918 LWC1 - 1926 LWC2 - 1934 LWC1 - 1935 LWC2 - 1939 LWC1 - 1941 LWC1 - 1942D LWC2 - 1942 LWC1 - 1942S LWC1 - 1943 Steel LWC1 - 1944S LWC1 - 1944D LWC1 - 1944 LWC2 - 1945 LWC4 - 1946 LWC1 - 1946D LWC1 - 1947 LWC1 - 1947D LWC3 - 1950D LWC1 - 1951S LWC1 - 1952S LWC2 - 1953 LWC1 - 1953D LWC3 - 1956D LWC3 - 1957D LWC1 - 1958 LWC6 - 1958D LWC I've never seen a steel cent before! Or a IHC either, for that matter. Have any of you gotten one of those kinds of rolls and gotten something amazing? I'm sure the "unsearched" rolls have been searched, but you never know? I'm a gamblin' man so chances are I will do it again even though it's probably a bad idea.

$13 seems high for one roll of cents but what the heck. No winners in there - the 42S has the lowest mintage of the bunch at 85.6M (I'm only talking about the Lincolns - I don't know squat about IHCs).
Either way I bet it was fun to go through.

Looks like you did pretty well -- I've always assumed that this type of lot on ebay would contain two good coins and 48 culls from the 1940s and 1950s.

Sorry, but you didn't do well. That roll isn't worth more than $4-$5, and was put together. The seller did well.

Hi Harkness - The good thing is it didn't break the bank but not a sustainable endeavor. If you do it again, halve that price including shipping. There is an odd chance you'll find a variety mixed in there to make things fall close to your favor so then it might be worth the gamble (unlikely you'll find a variety unless you see something to cherrypick). Otherwise, you'd do better picking up those coins at an LCS for a few cents each (except for the IHCs and a couple others). Good luck!

Haven't had time to look for varieties yet, but I doubt there are any. I definitely got better coins than I had assumed I'd get! I wasn't expecting a 1909S VDB or anything, but I also didn't expect more than the 1 IHC to be there. I was pleasantly surprised.

But take our word for it, your only wasting your money. you'll realize this on your own in a few years. anybody can buy inferior coins on e-bay. the seasoned coin collector will buy nice coins at a nice price. start thinking about your future with coins!

Harkness, you paid a small amount for a big lesson & up close examination of coins you have never seen. You did good in that respect ... I wish some of my lessons were so cheap! Oh and Rackster & edwather posting consecutively is very confusing lol

I did the same thing when I first started collecting. I realized it's cheaper to buy what you need to fill holes in your album rather than "unsearched", although I did find a good lot once, but there was no claim of rolls averaging 3 Indian per roll, it was just a good price. I think the worst unsearched I've encountered was by a large shop in my area and those certainly weren't unsearched and not a single hole filler unless you need 1957, 1957 d, 1958 and 1958 d x 100. It was my first time going in and I felt I needed to buy something and the crimped rolls looked well aged.

If you've never had an Indian Head cent or a Steel cent, it was worth it just to get something new. I wouldn't make a habit of buying those rolls though.

I am well aware that the coins that were in the roll were not worth the $12 I paid, but I feel that I got more than $12 in entertainment out of it so I am happy. I don't think I would have taken the time to search out and buy a steel cent or IHC in the near future, so finding a few in there was worth it to me. I had fun with it, and that matters more to me than if I paid a few extra dollars than I "should have". I've wasted much more money than that on worthless things.

That is called having the right attitude. Sometimes we forget that the journey, not just the destination, has a cost as well. If you had fun, you had fun. $12 better spent here than on a really, really bad movie.

Common date, circ roll....judging by the coins in it, the seller put it together. Not a bad spread but most of the coins are only worth 5 cents each, the Indians are worth a bit more.
