I think its Mint State all the way but what do you think. I may send it out because they bring big money in high grade but you responses will tell me if its worth it Edited by Mikey07nj 07/04/2015 7:56 pm

AU58 slider MS, based on photos, is that gold toning or just a photo artifact?
I'm terrible at grading these things, but that's a NICE overdate and very easily visible. Wonder if that's a die chip @ 7:00 obverse or a ding/gouge, cameras do weird things to dimensionality.

This very much deserves a TPG opinion. I own an ANACS 50 and yours is certainly better than that. Except for the slightest hint of rub at the center of the faeces, which might actually be a very slight weakness in strike, I see no other indications of circulation. The one thing I'm not certain of is the overdate itself. Mine and all others I've seen show the 1 VERY strongly to right. This one also seems to have something, almost like the top of a 3 above the 4. Someone with more experience with these needs to weigh in.

moxking the 42/1 Philadelphia mint shows the 1. the Denver mint cleaned off most of the 1 leaving only a tab on the top and bottom of the 2 you have to rely on the extra leg on the 4

pictures are showing gold toning which is inaccurate but shows the details better. I will tell you I showed this to a grader for cant say but they put little stickers on pcgs and ngc slabs and he offered $1200 and said. I Quote if it came back full bands its a $20,000 coin. but I don't think so. his words.

AU-55 and not FB, I don't know what this "grader" was talking about.

Thanks much Mikey. I've learned something new today. It also gives me a marvelous excuse to drag out my bag of 40's Mercs tomorrow .

Definitely send it our regardless. Much better to have it authenticated, and the difference in selling price will more than cover the grading fees. Did you "pick" this one too? Awesome coin

I would definitely get this graded, what I find it concerning is the 2 appears to be tooled from the picture above, if you can get a better picture on the date and show in angle around the date would be most helpful.

Have to agree with jdiablo. Scratches/abrasions bother me as well. Otherwise, 55. $1200 not a bad offer.

If its real, it will help you to have this coin graded. I do not believe it is mint state though, it looks more AU. the obverse mark at 7:00 also bothers me. Let us know what you decide.
