I'm so excited about my new find! This is my first double die find and the coin is in near mint condition! I've been holding onto some coins which I've searched quite a few times for errors and didn't see this one. I guess it's possible that I didn't see it considering I'm new to the hobby but I'm also persistent... I once searched an entire phonebook for a number that crank called me lol and I found it! This was before I had internet... I'll try to get a good photo of the dime but it's night time here so I'll have to wait until morning for some better lighting. So exciting!

Lol that popcorn ;) yeah I'm pretty much a noobie but I think I've posted enough to know PMD vs original errors and I'm certain this is a great find! Only downside is my camera is horrible at taking pics even with my lovely little magnifying glass placed over it >.< But I will certainly upload some tomorrow when the sun rises!!

As soon as you see the sun, take some pictures. I hope for you that it is not MD.

New England Collector,

The term "Doubled Die" is spelled with a "D" at the end of "Double" as in "Doubled."

Well you have three things going on with your coin.
1. The die that struck your coin is showing extreme Die Deterioration. (wear) Note on the edges of the devices facing the rim, is extending out to that area. That happens on worn dies.
2. The die was also showing a small of grease in the devices preventing a normal strike. Note how some devices are looking wider? That is because the devices on the are wider at the base and tapered at the tops. Kind of like this:
1986-P-Dime-DDR-&-Die-Polishing-Error
Note when the die is filling with grease, the devices will appear as slight wider because of the taper? It is a common error and in this case warants no premium.
3. Slight machine damage to the device on "E" of UNITED. The die movement on this area damaged that device. This happened either at the time of striking or during eject of the coin. It is Post Strike Damage.

Because of just one device affected, I'm thinking that this occured during ejection. (which is still MD)

Nice to know what you have, but there is no evidence of hub doubling (variety) or collectable error (MD which is common) so unless you want to keep it because now you know now what it is, it can be returned to circulation. Sorry
