I'd agree with IndianGoldEagle, 64 PL. This is one of the easiest date / mms to find PL.

The most telling way to gauge the prooflike character of the fields is to stand the coin on edge on something like a printed page, or even better, a ruler of some sort, and see how far out the text or markings are readably reflected. This can be photographed as well. Your coin may be PL, and there's certainly some cameo aspect to the devices, but there's not enough evidence here to say it's more than "semi-prooflike". As to grade, MS63 to 64 seems about right.

I can't say if it's PL or not from the photos but I can tell that it should grade MS64, however. Quote: I've been hunting a certified DMPL/PL Just be aware that not all certified PL and DMPL are what the label says. Different grading companies have different opinions on these designations and they have also changed over the years. The best way to tell if a coin is PL or DMPL is holding it and checking it to reflect print as per ANA standards.

I think 64PL sounds about right.

MS 64 and the coin from the photos looks semi prooflike as the mirror reflection on the obverse looks weak on the lower section around the date. The obverse is not showing much cameo contrast but it is hard to tell PL and DMPL from photos.

I concur with the others who've said MS-64PL.

Would you confidently use the coin as a shaving mirror? Seriously. A "yes" answer is a good argument that it's DMPL.

Thank you all for the opinions! And SuperDave I don't think this one would come close.. Really can't wait until I go to Orlando tomorrow and attempt to find a DMPL!

For fun tomorrow look at some of the higher grade DMPL's with clean mirrors and cheek as the coin's are amazing. Also consider a PL with strong mirrors and cameo that is near DMPL as you can save some money and get a higher grade. Here is a photo of a 1886 MS 65 PL with a nice white cameo and mirrors near DMPL. This coin looks as good as some of my DMPL coins. although, I did have to pay a little premium for this coin.
