How many hours per day?

i dont really do any amount of hours a day its just when I feel like it. it might be nothing one day then maybe 20 mins here and there then I might sit for 1-2 hrs straight. my hands start to cramp up if I do it too long (i guess I'm starting to get old) and it also depends if my wife is with me because all that tapping would be annoying, but I will finish this in the near future, and will probably make one from a Morgan dollar next because I think this one might be too small
here are some pics of my last one I made from a 50c piece as you can see this ring is tight on my pinky and its size 10-1/2 and I want a ring I can wear on my other fingers , this ring needs a light polish as its been sitting for a while

sorry for the delay I had been busy but I did manage to complete the ring other than file out a few more bumps and give it a more mirror like finish,
i wanted a ring for my middle finger but this is just a bit too small for that but it does fit the next finger perfectly, I will use a Morgan dollar next.
as you see I saved the center to minimize scrap and I put a quarter in the middle for size comparison overall I am happy as this is the first ring I have ever owned that I could wear comfortably on another finger other than my pinky,

Do you anneal the metal regularly? I would imagine that it speeds up the process considerably, when you work silver it gets harder and harder, heat it up till it is glowing and drop into water and all the molecules rejig themselves and it becomes very pliable again. This obviously discolours the metal a little but nothing that cant be removed by a quick dip in an acid (safety pickle or diluted sulphuric) then a wire brush or polish.

Also a ring like this can be stretched on a wedding band stretching tool (most jewellers have them) it is like a triplet (ring stick) but it is separated into quarters which move apart when you pull the handle. One or two sizes shouldn't effect it too badly but maybe several sizes might start to effect the design inside. It can also be squashed into a smaller size with the correct tools.

It is an interesting idea though, thanks for sharing it.

gidjit - Thanks for sharing your project. You have every right to be proud of the ring, and you did a great job. This has been one of the most fun sequences I've read in a while. I admire your willingness to consider destroying a Morgan dollar next. I couldn't (well, maybe a 1921). Jack

I could see myself doing this with a Barber or later Seated half that was already heavily damaged in the middle.
