I started in 1955 when my uncle gave me a bunch of (near) empty Whitman folders, and so I just jumped in. LWCs interested me the most because they were inexpensive to keep and you could get 10-20 rolls at the bank every few days with your dad's backing. By 1957 I was branching out and collecting most of the popular series back then (no one gave Two Cents about Roosevelts or Franklins, and any Washington after 1940 was quickly passed over). At that time, with diligence sorting at our local bank on Saturday mornings (this was a very small town!), it was possible to put together the entire Walker set in 2-3 months, albeit with the early keys in lower grades, and I did this several times. Problem was, the face value was so high that I couldn't afford to keep the set, so I (duh) just turned them back in and started over. All of the Mercs could be found except the '16-D. With dad's help, I eventually advertised in local papers and the two of us bought and sold many local collections during my high school years. Picked it up again after the college/grad school years, and continue to buy and sell today with great enthusiasm!

I started collecting in the summer of 2011 after my dad split his collection between my brother and I. I caught the bug big time.

Started collecting in the early 80's. Sold the collection several times and got back into collecting again two years ago. If I had kept all my coins, I would have to count my gold coins by the pounds and Silver dollars by the rolls.

I started collecting in the mid to late 1940s and have been off and on since then. I was able to pull some Barbers out of circulation back then and still have them!

Started collecting Mid to late summer 2014. It's been about a year now Here is my story copied and pasted from another thread: Walked into a grocery store with my parents. Asked my mom to have $0.50 out of my allowance. Went to the claw machine game. Saw an ike. Won an ike for $0.50 Asked mom to bring me to the bank. Got a half dollar and a bicentennial quarter. Went home. Emptied change jar. Found a couple wheats (Didn't know what too look for, definitely missed some wheats and most likely missed some silver). Got 2 or 3 wheats. Found an SBA on the ground outside of a restaurant. All in less than a week. I was hooked after that.

Since 1968 in earnest. That same year I bought an almost complete set of BU Morgans but in that deal the keys dates, 93-S 89-CC, etc. were in F-VF --I paid $500 for the lot. I was 14 years old at the time. I also accumulated jars of Buffalo nickels and silver coins on the cheap from 1968-1972. I worked 2 jobs in junior and senior high school plus I had a fantastic mentor! Now it's mostly AU to Mint State Coronet Large Cents that hold my attention.

started collecting a year ago and filled half of the State Quarters then. Suddenly I lost interest in it Got back into collecting 2 months ago after looking through the album, now I'm officially hooked! I collect anything from 2015 pennies to whatever I can find (so far it's 1912)

I started collecting around 1963 when my father started hoarding silver coins in advance of the switch. My collection has gotten lost, sold by family when I have been away and reassembled several times over the past 50 years. While visiting my sister a couple of years ago she pulled out a box of coins and said look what I saved while cleaning out the family home after my Dad passed. "It's his coin collection" I informed her that it wasn't his it was mine. He had bought me all those coins when I was a kid. She said that she has had it for over 30 years and she was going to keep it with all her other "Father" memorabilia. I said fine. Such is the ups and downs acquiring, losing track off and acquiring again over decades of collecting.

Started collecting years ago as a little kid. I've tried hard to remember what got me into the hobby but can't. As far back as I can recall I've been fascinated by coins, and currency. I appreciate history, that probably has something to do with it.

Several years now. Started off in coins and now do mostly paper money. Only coins I buy now are nicely toned wheat cents.

I've always been enamored by all coins US and world since I can remember. Would always stash ones I really liked and found in circulation or my uncle or dad would give when I was a kid in the 70's-had a small stash I would add to now and then but no real serious sets or collections. Then started to buy my first Morgans and Peace dollars around '98 from a coin dealer I knew at work but then got real busy with building our first home and raising a family. Now that the kids are grown and 2 are out Of the nest already I suddenly had to find something to do during these long ohio winters and got real serious about collecting this time id say about 3 to 4 years and it has turned into a real passion and I'm starting to run out of room-my overflow is already on display in the wife's office. She will learn to love it!(also past couple years been slowly going through my dad's hoard of world coins, researching them cataloging them and 2x2'ing the worthy ones)

I started for real in 1958, after my father brought home a Barber quarter or half dollar. I started noticing there were multiple types of each denomination, and that caught my interest. Prior to 1958, I had a few silver dollars that my parents gave me after getting them in change in the 1940s and 1950s in California. The one I remember most is a Morgan received in change at the Louisville Kentucky airport in 1957 or early 1958. After that, I don't think they got any more. As for Canadian coins, most of what I have were cents through quarters that strayed across the border, and were kept as curiosities. Since about 1990, I have purchased a few gold Canadian coins.

I started collecting Euro coins in 2002 when introduced. Pulled them Just from circulation.. I was not a real serious collector, more interested in "Techno" and other electronic music raves all night long even into the mornings. When I had a job change in 2005, I still was keeping all the different Euro coins by date from circulation.. but with this new job it was much easier to expand my collection. As I work at a very big wharehouse, and came in contact with the truck drivers from all European countries. After another year or so I started to keep non Euro coins also.. In 2008 I'm officially hooked.. My work was then my best source, I discovered the www in 2009... and started buying per kilogram and small collections. Now I have 17000+ different coins in my collection.. Somehow I have a good nose for buying lots/collections.. Keep what I don't have and selling the rest, most of the time with a profit.. Keeps the hobby free and my girlfriend happy..

I've had a few coins for many years, but didn't start collecting seriously until I signed up with CCF, in 2006, and met some great people to trade with. Steve
