The lines line up for obverse and reverse, I don't think it was cleaned that way.

As I look at AT in STATES it might also be a M.A.D. what do you think?

I say this is a woody but not a MAD. The woody lines are faint but distinctive.

To me it looks like a stained nickel. Note how on the tops of the highest places the color is wearing off?

Or could that just be the over exposure not showing detail in those spots? would need to have the coin in hand to tell.

Well, I have the coin in hand. Coop, Fuzzy, and The Kid nailed it. As you said, Coop, the color is wearing off on the highest reliefs. Thanks to all, this one's going back.
