I had a couple of finds, nothing too spectacular.

The first find was a recent one. I was opening up a roll of Jefferson dollars, when I found a die break on one of them.

About 11 years ago I was working at a movie theatre when I came across a 1996 off center Washington quarter.

And the third find worth writing about happened 2 years ago. I was at an estate sale and found a belt with a Morgan attached to the buckle. I asked how much it was, and the man running the sale told me it was a quarter. I bought it for 25 cents and removed it from the buckle. It was an 1879 in G-4.

Like I said, nothing too spectacular, but I was thrilled.

One of my best finds was a 1911 D 2 1/2 Indian gold in unc condition. My 3rd was Two hundred in gold certificates bills in a crack in the floor of an old house my father bought while redoing the floors. I can't tell my best find, you wouldn't believe me. I once found a demonstration skull with full upper and lower solid Gold Teeth.

Hard to say what my best has been So far I've discovered two new edge varieties of Conder tokens, two previously unknown die varietes of Conder token, The second and finest known specimen of Warwickshire 340bis, the 1873-S V-2 Half Dime variety, the 16th known specimen of the 1797 S-121a large cent and I've cherrypicked many other rare die varieties for my collection.

When I checked my old bag of coins that I saved, I found out that I had 1 Franklin half in XF/AU condition, a few Roosevelt dimes. I just found 1 Kennedy half DDR (using Cherry Picker Guide) while rolls hunting.... I also found some Wheat Pennies here and there....

Simply the discovery of collecting coins this year!

I had a small collection going and when we moved I was in a cleaning and organizing frenzy. I decided to put all my coins in one cigar box. And yes I cleaned some of my larger coins with a metal polish(bad I know, found this out way too late ) Went to the library to look up some of my coins and thats when the bug hit me hard. I have been at it full force since!

Hi, I am a fairly new collector and I haven't found anything really exciting. But, I did get a Jefferson dollar the other day, and plan on keeping it in my collection box.

I'm afraid I've never had any lucky finds, but then, I've never search rolls or bags.

BUT, the best find I've ever heard of....

My dealer had a woman bring in a 1 OZ gold Panda. Apparently she was doing street clean up on the side of the freeway (court ordered perhaps?). And there it was.

At a flea market there used to be a guy that had all US coins in one big bin and foriegn coins in another bin. He would DUMP, and I mean DUMP all coins into those bins. He had one set price for each by denomination only. He had no idea of dates, mint marks, condition. Mercury dimes were all $1 each but the more you buy, the cheaper they were. I would always buy 10 to 40 from him. My price was either $0.85 to $0.90 each. I've found numerous Merc's in the 40's in MS grades. Many in the 30's in AU grade. One 38D appeared about MS63. The best ones were 42/41, 21, 26S and just bunches of teens but only in VF type grades.
Like all good things this ended lately. I told him about the Grey Sheet on coin prices. He now uses that.

Best coin finds:

1907 Indian cent from rolls of pennies (from $50 for the Cent Project)

1940-something Walking Liberty half from half dollar searching (can't remember the date now)

Several Buffalo nickels (mostly dateless) and 50D Jefferson key from nickel searching

Occasional nickel, dime, quarter, half and dollar proofs from roll searching; 1979P wide rim SBA dollars (quite a few now accumulated)

Just two weeks ago or so: from several hundred dollars of customer-wrapped halves- got two solid 40% silver rolls all together- customer wrapped them and deposited them to the bank that way.

I also had accumulated a wonderful collection of paper currency from circulation going back to the 30s with many silver certificates, but all that was stolen.

I've also picked up multiple 64L Indian Head cents for cheap over the years (less than $10 each) because they were mislabeled as 64 plain.
