Just a couple questions on returning coins to the mint . Is this an simple process? Has any one had a problem after returning a coin(s) to the mint? Was the credit card refunded promptly? Just received the first 2 0z looney tunes and the reverse with bugs and elmer has scratches and looks like a film from a washing or cleaning process.

I returned 2 of the gold looney tunes coins, I emailed my rep, he sent me a shipping label and it was gone the next day, I don't know exactly when the refund was done on the card, but it was done.

@CoinCanuck,
unfortunately, the coin looks like has some milk-spots formations, that not rare on bullion coins (specially when you observe them from the angle).
But in addition: what are the lines (like raised relief) that crossing the head of the guy and the chair? Or these are the "cracks" on the capsule?

Took me a bit to find my camera , in the middle of a move here. Have a look but there is no way I can accept coins like this straight from the mint.

@Silveroid, Yeah those cracks are on the capsule itself. I might try removing the capsule entirely just to have a look but I think ill end up returning it for a replacement. I had to return my gold looney tunes coin due to a deep scratch and I also had to return one of my Superman coins twice, first due to a hair being embedded in the colouring and the second time was due to a scratch in the replacement coin. Not happy with RCMs quality control lately

Just return it
For this money, the item have to be if not the perfect but without issues detectable by naked eye.
It so bad...agree (means the quality, that due to it you had to return the coins).
Added: And what are the "spots" - they are on the coin surface (like milk spots), or again on the capsule, like dried water drops?

Hey Silveroid, I took the capsule off and yeah it appears to be dried milk spots or some kind of wash left over on the capsule itself. The coin is practically flawless, I didn't see any film or milk spots on it. I took some new pictures, as you can see, the capsule is filthy, but the coin is good.

Quote: Just a couple questions on returning coins to the mint . Is this an simple process? Has any one had a problem after returning a coin(s) to the mint? Was the credit card refunded promptly? I've purchase hundreds of coins from the Mint and have only ever once returned one. The process was relatively easy in the beginning. I e-mailed my rep that I received a defective coin and he sent me a postage paid shipping label. I simply attached the label to the original packaging from the Mint and dropped it off at the post office. The fun came later. I had asked for a replacement for the coin (it was part of a sub) but I expected either the Mint would send the coin promptly, or they would credit my CC and rebill when they sent the replacement coin. Neither of those things happened. It took almost two months for the new coin to be shipped and in that time, I was out the cash (I had paid my CC bill) and I didn't have the coin. That was frustrating but it got even more so. In the time that I had waited for the replacement coin, I received the final coin in the sub so I had an incomplete set. After about a month, I contacted my rep who was surprised that I hadn't received the replacement coin. He checked into it, and apparently, some clerk at the Mint had discovered that there was a billing error two years ago. They had decided that they had undercharged me for some coins two years ago so the solution for that was to not ship me the replacement coin (keeping my money) and not bothering to so much as contact me to discuss the situation. I was understandably not impressed. Eventually (about a month later), they decided to write off the outstanding balance they claimed that I owed from two years ago and send me the replacement coin. There was never a credit and rebill on my CC statement. Also interesting that in the two years after they allegedly under billed me, I had received and been properly charged for many coins, had regular dealings with my rep and at no time did anyone from the Mint contact me regarding their alleged billing error. Oddly, I have not been compelled to order any NCLT coins since this all happened.

@CC-Ottawa , seems like the mint is getting overwhelmed with the amount of coins they are releasing and can not keep up . I talked to my rep this morning and will get a return label. Will see how long it takes to get my money back. I cancel the rest of the sub and the rest of the coins I had on order. I think that from now on if I want any releases from RCM I will purchase on the secondary market at below issue, I am sure.

So not really for all the items, but for majority of them we'll wait. But since no one buying, where from they will appear with reduced price? Dealers....probably, but who except the CA makes kind of sales? Even CA sell for reduced price coins with defects or defective / missing packaging, or coins 2 years old and more.

I've had to return a couple coin's back to the mint never had a problem in returns, I've had other problem's with the Mint that took 4 try's, and only when I brought my problem to the attention to the President of the Mint. At the RCNA Show in Mississauga and I e-mailed him the details on the following Monday did the problem get fixed.

Customer service at the Mint is pretty good so you should have no problem returning your coin(s). The more fundamental question is about issuing quality product. On a side note... I personally think that the RCM QA employees are overwhelmed with the number of different coins passing through the production line.

For this, I not eliminate the possibility, that not all RCM coins or items minted / packed by RCM. Is it possible, that same facility manages to maintain the increased production for the period of 100 years? Even assuming that all circulation coins for Canada and other countries minted in Winnipeg, still the amount of NCLT and bullion is huge.
