I usually by my coins on ebay. But they seem to sell cheaper on HA. Has anyone used HA? Is there a buyers premium? Do they work with PayPal?

Heritage is good but watch the 17.5% Buyer's Premium and steep shipping fees that can add a few percent more to your total. They accept PayPal and offer a 1% discount for direct (no fee) payments. Taking your bid times 1.2 will give you an estimated total price on sub-$1,000 auctions.

Everything BH1964 said is true.

I just divide what I want to pay by 1.2 and that gives me a good margin for error. They do combine shipping, but since a single coin will likely cost $25 to ship, that has to be taken into consideration.

I usually do my bidding with Heritage when I can't find a coin I really want any other way. I've had some coins on my want list so long that I've doubted that I'd ever see one, and then Heritage will offer one.

Careful bidding and patience is required. Don't expect to see your coins much before 10 days, so it isn't like ebay where you have the coins in your hands 3 or 4 days later.

Just don't bid on any pre-55 commemoratives! (Guess what I'm working on now!)

That's very interesting so when I see prices on the NGC auction sold items. When looking at something I'm currently deciding to buy on ebay. It doesn't reflect a 15% premium?

No it does reflect the premuim. Heritage Auctions archives show the total price (including Buyer's Premium of 17.5%) but minus S&H charges.

Good post, agree with all the input. If you're looking for something specific, there's nothing quite like the gigantic Heritage auctions. And their on-line files of past sales are just staggering - you can spend all afternoon researching anything you like for free.

And don't forget sales tax if you live in a state where Heritage has a corporate office.

I've bought a few coins on Heritage. It's all certified, higher quality stuff. Prices can be pretty good but there is less selection overall than ebay. A good option overall.

What about on site buying at the ha floor at shows. I'm assuming it's pretty cuthrought with dealers and average Joes duking it out. Also, are they multi day auctions or the auction is last day with preview on the first days?
