Well....sort of. My 8 y/o son has a habit of checking under soda machines, coinstars, etc, for loose change - my fault, I got him into it! Anyway, we were down at our local groc store a few mins ago and he was checking and it's embarrassing as he is lying on the ground trying to find stuff. I was self-checking out and he runs up to me saying, "look what I found, it's not normal! It's really not!!"
I told him to hold on, that is was obv some sort of foreign coin and he say, "it's says united states of america one dime" on it. Well, I looked at it, it's a '45-P Mercury, i'd say F-VF. It came from under the red box video machine right next to the coinstar so my guess is that is where it was originally being dumped into.

Great find.

Put it in a 2 X 2 and put the date and the story on it so years later you and him will remember that story and have the coin to back it up.

Rude.

I think it's embarrassing too, but I still do it.

Some of you are misunderstanding me.......the embarrassing part is him lying flat on the ground trying to reach under a machine for a coin. It's a bit diff than checking the return slot on machines. Granted, he is 8. I'm in my 40's and have done that when I was a kid but would not now, obviously. I'm actually tickled pink that he has taken such a big interest in it, esp with the video games, etc, that kids have at their disposal nowadays. He wants to take the $$ out of his bank and buy himself a nice old coin but instead I'll prob let him pick something reasonable out and pay for it myself, plus i'll be giving him parts of my collection as he gets older (assuming he sticks with the hobby).

Jack jeckel: Great idea to put it in a 2 x 2 and label it.

I've done that, I admit. I did that back when I was 11, and I still do it, turning 17 this year and maybe the fact that I look like I'm 21 doesn't really help the fact anyways.

I just pretend to tie my shoe, and then do my magic.
