Hello,

I sat my dansco album in my closet about 5 months ago and I didn't touch it until last night but to my surprise my wheats had fallen out of their holes. I made sure when I put them in that they were tight in there.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Does it get cold in there? Do you have the plastic sleeves?

Odd. Never had anything like this happen. Did they press in tightly when you originally put them in? Have you dropped the books or have they been slammed down?

Interesting. I do not see how it would happen if the slides are in place.

As usual, I wonder if you mean Folders, not an Album. If an Album the slides would stop coins from falling out.
Possibly you had those taxable coins in there and the government just keeps on making our money less and less so they get smaller.
In reality I just don't see how that could happen.

The album stayed in the same location and the coins were in the holes tight when I put them in. Also the slides were in and the album was placed in the slip cover by dansco.

Sorry what I meant by falling out is that they slipped between the page under where the coins were put into place.

Well, darn. I have never had that problem.

How is the climate in that closet? Stable temperature and low humidity are important.

Sounds like the glue that holds the pages together is giving out. Move that Album to a different place and see if it continues.

I have seen this happen on old albums. When the album(s) were not
stored very well. The outside of the pages would seperate from the
center section.

I have 61 Dansco's, from last weeks count, and only have one slot
that is doing what your's is. On my 1947 Canadian dime. The dime
is very worn, I think that is part of it. That album is over 40 years old.

On old albums that were used a lot (moving the slides in and out) the paper "stretches" allowing a gap to develop between the slide and the center portion of the page. When that happens it is possible for coins especially thin ones) to slip out of the center section and migrate to other areas.

I suppose another thing we need to know is how old this album is.

This album is only 14 months old and I hardly handle it. I also have other dansco albums but this is the only one that did this.

Ouch.

Sounds like it is defective then. Is there any possibility of remediation from where you bought it? It is a long shot, being over a year old, but worth asking I suppose.

I suggest that low humidity may be the problem, especially if it was stored in a confined space. Low humidity (during the winter) will cause all natural paper/wood products to shrink slightly.
