I can't call any of these "coins", aside maybe from the Transnistria pieces. The others are pretty much kitschy trinkets with a money denomination on them. And since when is the dollar used in Somalia?

"The coins are 1 Dollar legal tender coins issued by the Somali Republic

They are legal tender of Somalia, however, they do not actually circulate.

They are intended for coin and guitar, motorcycle, car, and animal enthusiasts"

I don't really consider these coins either but Joels Coins (I'd link the website but I'm not sure if forum rules allow) sells a lot of these.

A really cool site actually. A lot of interesting coins on there that can be hard to get a hold of. I especially like their micro-nation and island nation coins and their "coin zoo" section that features coins with animals on them. I've picked up a lot of stuff from them over the years.

These are really neat! I really like the look of them. My favorites got to be the cars (car guy) and 3d ones. Thanks for sharing

Joel Anderson Coins has a lot of really odd and unusual numisamtic items for sale.
I find these rather hard to accept as coins, despite the fact that they may be NCLT.

Can you imagine trying to reprogram vending machines to take all these coins? I'm sure the machines will hate it!

Sorry, but any and all coins "from Somalia" that are denominated in "dollars" are not legal tender coins. Somalia does not, and has never, used a currency called a "dollar". All such coins are unofficial, non-legal-tender and you will not find them listed in the mainstream Krause catalogues. The mint that issued these coins specifically chose Somalia as their flag-of-convenience because Somalia does not currently have an internationally recognized government to do any coin issuing or legalizing of tender, so there are no legal ramifications for outright lying about their "legal tender" status.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

Thanks for the info SAP....
I assume these "dollar coins" out of Somalia are nothing more than a gimik then, but seem to be popular with collectors.

Here is the exchange rate for Somali shilling to US dollar:

1 Somali Shilling equals $0.0014 US Dollar

JUST A WOW exchange rate!!

All of those are really odd. And as already stated, imagine trying to find a vending machine that will take them.

I have seen most of them and I have a set of the Transnistria pieces. (Supposedly those actually circulated so they are coins.) They aren;t the first plastic coins though, the 1913 Keeling Cocos pieces are.

Yeah, some of them are neat, but I'd be hard pressed to call them "coins" by any stretch of the imagination. Aside from the odd shapes and the fact they aren't actually meant to be spent, they are all made by specialty mints for countries that don't actually use them.

Having said that, though, I still love my Fortuna Redux cylinder coin I got a couple of years ago (made by the Polish Mint for Niue Island and definitely not spendable):

Pity it has gone down in value so much since I bought it...
